A Amnesty International report on the Qatar Cup is now making the rounds.
FIFA's Gianni Infantino urged to act on Qatar stadium conditions report
A Brit MP was quoted in the press saying:
He told Press Association Sport: "This is one of the big tests for Infantino. If he wants to demonstrate his leadership is different from Blatter, is he prepared to speak out on this really important issue? The tournament is being carried out in FIFA's name and after years of criticism and concerns the standards in Qatar are found massively wanting.
"What confidence does he have things are going to get any better? If they don't will he step in and take action?
"If he buries his head in the sand people may conclude one president has replaced another but otherwise what's changed?"
Sadly, it looks like that while the head of FIFA maybe the different, the body is basically the same.
In his letter of response, FIFA head of sustainability Federico Adiecchi wrote: "We thank you for bringing these important issues to our attention. We take them very seriously and acknowledge our responsibility to ensure human rights are respected in the context of preparing for and carrying out the tournament.
"While constructive criticism is necessary and, in many cases, helpful, it is also important to acknowledge progress, such as the achievements of the Supreme Committee [the government entity responsible for the delivery of World Cup infrastructure] to date.
I basically translate this into 'listen 1 'laborer' was dying a day building these stadiums and now its 1 per week. Plus, their morale is much better now after we 'asked' them to participate in a fun marathon in them middle of the desert with no water, no shoes, and no training just so that the Al Sadd Sports Club, which runs one of Qatar's top flight soccer clubs and is in line to acquire of of the World Cup stadium venues, could try and get into the Guinness Book of Records for the largest marathon ever (50,000 runners).
Asian labourers 'press-ganged' into joining Qatar marathon record attempt
Problem solved, now excuse my while I count the $200 million that our President's, whoops former President's, cousin just gave us from the Wanda Group, which is based in China and has no concern about potential human right issues.
