He left because he knew they were getting fired after this year. He is an older guy. If Addazio fails at BC it may be his last coaching stop, as he clearly wants to coach close to home. I wish they gave the job to him to him instead of PP but that isn't how it worked out.
He left because he is smart, and reset his coaching clock as far as coaching close to home. Sorry you can't see that.
Here is some irony, though:
I agree with your assessment of why and when he left. But I have to believe that if he had stayed, Warde would have placed HIM as the interim coach instead of Weist. Did he just cost himself a quick chance at the head coaching position near home? If so, maybe he's kicking himself a little by going to Addazio. Remember, this is a guy that was flirting with the idea of coaching at Yale not too long ago, so he clearly would like a head coaching job. But he may have just screwed himself out of one by running away. Warde may wish to make a bigger splash if he can (or a "younger" splash, or a "Michigan-ties" splash, whatever). But at this point, it's unlikely that Don Brown coaches UConn next year, IMHO, and it may not have been true if he didn't leave...
