At least someone is excited. Welcome, Memphis. Cool history.
That's funny they'd post that. Doesn't look right with all the other "nice" numbers they posted. One thing you generally shouldn't mention is the time you broke the longest bowl drought in the country.
Btw, if Memphis basketball can stay big time in CUSA how can haters say UCONN can't do it from the AAC? Makes no sense at all.
I just got back from Memphis. Was there on business. Had dinner on Beale St, right off of it is the Basketball arena. There are blues bands playing all over town. We sat and had a beer while watching one playing in an outdoor alcove -- blew me away. We may not like our AAC positioning but since we're here for at least a while, Memphis, like our other new venues--Orlando, Houston, Dallas and New Orleans should be fun places to visit for our away games. Come to think of it, as a silver lining to our conference cloud, compare those venues to Syracuse, Piscataway, and Pittsburgh!
Define "big time" for me. Memphis is a good mid-major which occassionally in its history has cheated its way to the Final Four. They have been to 3 of them and 2 were vacted by the NCAA. the 3rd was ancient history(1973). And this is what I've been saying. If you are willing to accept the odd final four trip, 1973, 1985, 2008, then the AAC is fine. While the odds aren't great, a good mid-major having a great season has a punchers chance of getting deep in the tournament. That isn't what UConn has been doing in the Calhoun years. But if you're ok with being a Memphis or a Gonzaga, then everything is going to be just peachy. I prefer to be thought of along side Duke, UNC, Kansas and other "programs" which are expected to contend every year and do contend regularly. You and your ilk, on the other hand are happy to be thought of as one of the good mid-majors. That you guys fail to see the difference is pretty amazing to me. It is almost as if you still think we're in the Yankee Conference, while those of us who were there during Yankee Conference times don't want to return to those days ever again when making the tournament was the goal, and winning it was never an option.I just know Memphis is going to rise to the top of this conference. Memphis has always been willing to do what needs to be done. Now that they have a conference that they deem worth winning they will lie, cheat and steal they're way to the top of it.

I suggest that we stop accepting that being as good as Memphis is an acceptable solution and hold a few people accountable for screwing this up. If it were up to me, Warde would be gone tomorrow and the power to appoint a new Athletic Director would be taken away from the President and given to some body or some individual within the university who actually cares about athletics. He or she would be given the directive to immediately develop a strategy for getting UConn out of this mess, and to just keep quiet aobut how wonderful the AAC is. And if he or she every refers to the AAC membership as "like-minded schools" or "our peers" or some similar terms, a 2 ton weight would immediately drop on his/her head.
It doesn't matter whether it was his fault or not. It just doesn't. He has lost all credibility both with his handling the situation and his comments since. And if you think a bunch of glorified community colleges, including one that pretty much is the poster child for cheating are our peers, I don't know what to tell you. And I'm not pissing on Gonzaga and company. They are all good mid-majors. Back in our Yankee conference days we would have given anything to be at that level. But which group would you want as your basketball peers, Gonzaga, Butler,Memphis, Xavier, or Duke, UNC, Michigan State, Kentucky? You're happy with the former, that's fine. You can thank Warde for the fine job. I think he needs to go. He has zero credibility with the fan base. He had one job above all others and he failed and looked bad doing it. He'll never recover.Small minded.
I believe Warde has come with fundamental change. The Conference realignment has not gone our way ... but very little of that can be laid/accountable to Warde Manual. Going forward, he will be seen as a positive player for us. (I believe) Y'all can whine and cry. But, we need to play solid games and build this fanbase. I believe we have a better future than some of the Schools selected (Rutgers, Syracuse, BC).
You don't like the entertainment in Piscataway?
Remember, Rutgers is only 50 miles from Manhattan! Rutgers brings the NY club scene!

Seriously? His one job was conference realignment? You're on crack.. He had one job above all others and he failed and looked bad doing it. He'll never recover.

So you think UConn and Memphis are peer institutions, and you are happy to have an a basketball program that is viewed by the world as as good as Gonzaga, but I'm an idiot. Maybe, but at least I want to have a nationally relevant program, not one like Memphis that only gets there when it cheats. Got it.You are an idiot.

Yup, I said that, though I also said I would check with him on who he tought would be a successful coach. I want the best teams UConn can put on the floor. You want to be Gonzaga. UConn: 3 national championships. 4 final fours. 10 Elite 8s.You are the Guy who thought UCONN should have given Calipari a call (yes you said that) last September instead of giving Ollie the job. You and your Ilk are still a laughingstock.
