The View From Section 241 — FAU

We will need to pony up a pretty penny to keep Edwards from not only the NFL but bigger fish in CFB.
He would be the man here, and might end up like Robinson, who got money, but doesn't play, which doesn't help the bid for the NFL.

This is absolutely perfect. Brinson had some solid tackles, but the lack of hustle from the majority of D players was stunning. Poor tackling, poor reads, poor effort. Unacceptable.
Yup and it's odd that for all of Brock's intensity it doesn't seem to translate to the players, at least not last Saturday.

You nailed it Biz. But as magnificent as Joe and the O were out there--making clutch plays all afternoon--especially on that last gasp 15 play 75 yard scoring drive---and as porous and inept as our D was, in the end the game came down to an incredibly improbable last second miss of a very makable field goal.
After the miss, a friend texted me.
"I watched the replay of the field goal and it’s inexplicable how he missed it so badly. Good snap, good hold. Good plant. No wind, no rain."
My response? "Don't underestimate the impact of pressure--or the power of prayer"--lol."

Good write up.

I thought when Veitkamp ran through the whole defense for that TD it was a microcosm of the whole defense.

In no way shake or form should any DB or LB ever get dusted by a QB like that past the line of scrimmage. It was like he had Moses clearing the way for him.
6'6", 240#. He's like a tight end.

It's hard to kick with your hands wrapped around your neck...

Did we ever blitz them? Guy had all day. Every time.
Yes. Kid got rid of it as soon as he saw it. We got to him once that I remember. He called out. I expect to see him move on to a P5.

When you yell at kids with no real consequence, all that happens is their hearing gets worse and you yell louder. Might be that he is not truly connected with the kids, they won’t “run through brick walls” for him. Maybe that shows up in his ability to recruit, which again, besides $, also depends on quickly developing a connection. Hard to say, but something is off, hopefully it is just a perfect storm of recruiting misses, bad luck, injuries, money spent on offense and the clouds will clear and the sun will come out. Defense has torpedoed a perfect 12-0 season already, not sure a Bowl loss due to lack of D kills us, but it won’t help.

Brock fired tomorrow, Mora takes over D for bowl?? Hmmm.

I know of a school who runs a pro style offense that could use a quarterback next year.
Veltkamp will be an interesting case study for me. Really good numbers in terms of picking up yardage. Good amount of TDs thrown. But a ton of picks. What will the market be for him? I also wonder if he and Messer will look to go somewhere together if one or both portals.

If he does portal, I understand why people would want him. Not sure he would be my first choice though, even if he's within our budget. I've gotten used to a QB who doesn't turn the ball over, and would rather find another QB in that mould once Joe moves on. Who knows though, maybe Pryce could work some magic with him and get those turnovers down.

Overkill. If you want to hang the loss to Delaware solely on the D, fine, but the losses to Syracuse and Rice involved all 3 units not doing enough, not just (or even primarily) the defense.

We want another QB, paid a fraction of P-4 money, who will lead the nation in lowest percentage of throws picked? Great idea. I have a list of things I’d like that are incredibly unlikely to happen also.

I’m with Wisky on this one. If he breaks a tackle because of his size and strength, so be it. If he is more agile than a DB or LB who just whiffs on him, something is terribly wrong.

I think he had two rushing TDs actually. Including a Fagnanoesque end zone dive.

Rice was coaching/preparation. Nobody looked solid on that wet field. Rice had better grip and that gave them an edge.

Syracuse and Delaware we were coached into those losses.

100%... The offense shut down and left the defense to fend for itself...

Firing Brock is overkill, granted. Offense was complicit in Syracuse loss, probably D best game until the end. Rice and Delaware were D losses.

He did do a nice fosbury flop into the end zone.

Dude if you're going to come at me with some snide attitude you might want to make sure you actually understand what I posted. Especially when I've been nothing but cordial with you on here.

I never said we should "bring in another QB paid a fraction of P-4 money who will lead the nation in lowest percentage of throws picked." Never even implied that. For one, I have no ****ing clue what our budget is, because it's been increasing every year, and from what I've heard the goal is to continue to increase it. Do I expect it to be that of a P4? Obviously not. Do I expect it to be as low as it was when we brought Joe in? Of course not. It will be somewhere in between that and I'm honestly not sure what we are capable of bringing in. The only reason I even mentioned our budget is I said earlier in the thread I expect Veltkamp to get paid, and I'm not sure he will even be attainable anyways.

Regardless that wasn't even the point I was trying to make. "He wouldn't be my first choice, even if he's within our budget." It means I would rather have a game manager who puts up lesser numbers but doesn't turn it over. It means I expect Veltkamp to get paid because he threw for so many yards, but there are QBs who will be just as effective overall next year that cost less because they don't turn the ball over. It means if we are on a limited budget, we shouldn't be like Oregon State and blow the whole damn thing on one player so we can go 2-9 next year (OK, that last part was for the OSU troll that I hope is still lurking here.)

Do you disagree? Is Veltkamp the guy you want or something?
