Hi guys:
Sitting here in our hotel with Ken (milfordhusky) and Joan (UCONNCat). We were SOAKED, Getting back to our hotel from the arena was an ADVENTURE, to say the least.
They wouldn't let us into the arena with our umbrellas and Ken had his pinched. Poor Joan just had a scarf and that did NOT do the trick.
Now on to the game... We sat in front of Kathy (Auriemma) and Glory/Dewanna. Chatted with them a little bit.
I'm not sure about the some of the "sky is falling" posts on the main thread. In the first half, aside from some layups, there was a total lid on the basket. Maya, Diana and several others - Sue and maybe Lindsey - all missed mid range shots they make in their sleep.
LOVED seeing Angel and Nneke come off the bench (by the way Nneka made a layup and the announcer called her "McCaughtry Ogwumike".
2nd half much better. USA much better conditioned and wore them down. BUT so many mid range shots didn't fall.
Also in the first half, China hit a ton of 3's in a row, and several of them were from super deep.
Overall a really good performance by team USA. A LOT of good offense, but also at times too much one on one, especially Angel stood out. Siemone a bit too. she hit the shots but they were hard. A LOT of missed chippies.
Prior to the game i predicted a 30 point win - about 78-48. I thought our offense looked really good at times. Maya had some sensational plays. Griner was MUCH better than I thought she would be. LOVED the lineup of Griner and Charles on the floor. It took them a bit to get their chemisty going but it was really good. Angel was a beast on defense as was Nneka. Tina was a monster on the boards.
Overall a good start to the World Championships...
