While some of us gnash our teeth at the stumbles of this season's incarnation of our women's team, and strive to find some balance between our elevated expectations and the recruiting and competitive realities of 2020, consider that we have had to "endure" seasons when even our Huskies had to fight to retain supremacy and (gasp) did not win a National Championship.

As a balanced perspective, take a look at this game from November 2000, when UConn dismantled a Georgia team ranked #3, one that was predicted to pose a very strong challenge to our juggernaut. That game goes in the same category as the more recent "pirhanas with blood in the water" game vs. Miss State. That team's talent in many ways throws shade over most other Uconn squades. But . . . even they lost three games, including the National Championship game, in which freshman Taurasi shot 1-15, and the entire team made only 33% of their attempts. True, Abrosimova and Ralph were both injured, but there was enough bench talent to make a better show. A little perspective and patience with this year's team, folks.

UConn has never lost a national championship game. The game they lost was in the semi-finals.

Another team - the amazing 2001-2002 team with the best UConn starting five - threw a stinker at Virginia Tech in January 2002 (the worst games are almost always played in January). It happens to the best of them

Thanks for the reminder. Hadn't rewatched this one in a few years but I was instantly reminded of what a gazelle Sveta was. She flew by like the years of our youth. Beyond comprehension why anyone thought a Landers team was a threat unless you counted the occasional puddle of slick stuff on the floor.
