Basketball wasn't big time? Ray Allen was a Junior my freshman year. They just went to the Elite Eight that Spring. Donyell was the 4th pick in the draft. They added 2,000 seats to Gampel my Sophmore Year. They won the FREAKING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP my senior year. You don't know what you're talking about.

i read "90s" not "late 90s". my bad. point still stands tho. yes i know 99 and the glory. but at that point we were the rising mid major still. we wernt the power we are today. there was no fball and the base was smaller back then.

the fairfield county fans spens his whol life morning and night in traffic. 20 more minutes on 84 isn't going to stop anyone. hell if they build the roads up around storrs were going to bit*h down here for them to give the finger to wilton and finish off super7. u want fairfield county $???? your not getting it at the rent. ppl go there to tailgate for 3 hours and watch fball. your not getting a lot of $ from that. you have no vision. put that same person on campus, let them walk around to old buildings and things, go to local bars and w/e else. let them relive college 8 weekend every fall and 20 nights every winter. thats how u get more $ flowing. other schools have it right. its weekends and long days. events all on campus and in the small towns they make up. imagine 8 games in storrs, 40 bball games and 15 puck games. then 15 baseball games and 7 lax games. tell me about $ flowing then.

to codyj, im not going to argue with u as your a fav of mine here. the rent is completely fine right now for playing games. sure like u said the scoreboard and w/e needs a few touch ups but the rent is fine. i'm not saying the rent is shea stadium. what i'm talking about is bad decision after 5 more bad ones havve led to uconn never getting its act together and molding the exact wrong culture it needs to mold to become a big boy from everything football to endownment size. thats all. im just extremely interested in figuring out how to get uconn and its crapy leadership out of all these holes becuase i dont think they even realize they are in them. getting the state its $ back and starting new is what i want.

I'm not going to take a lot of time explaining Fairfield County to you... Instead I'll summarize for you something that relates to almost everything you post:

Walk before you run. Rome wasn't built in a day. Reality can't be changed overnight - UConn needs years of incremental gains.

NOON games are a big part of the problem. If the game is in Storrs, it means you can't do ANYTHING else that day. For single guys without kids - great. For students - over the top fantastic. For married people with kids that are involved in sports - AWFUL. On a net basis maybe you pick up lots of people. But you also alienate a good number of people that go to the Rent.

CLEARLY in the long run it would be great. CLEARLY I'd have preferred it from day 1. But my attendance would be much lower. No question.

Do you though? And more importantly, do you pick up the targeted population? Why would your target be students? Their ticket cost less than a non-student patron and they spend less money in general because, well, they don't have any.

It's not just about how much cattle you can run through the turnstiles. Its also about what else can that volume offer. That is why the shopping center (or whatever they seem to be planning) around the Rent is a good thing. People do not exist in a Vacuum.

Putting a stadium on campus right now is a bad idea. 20 years from now is a different story's perhaps.

The area around the Rent needs to be built up. It's a shame that are only gets a workout in the fall.

I don't know. I just know it isn't impossible. There might be other people that don't come to the Rent because it doesn't have the "on-campus" feel. It also might make the games more attractive as a "destination" for new grads to come back for. And of course you have the "shiny new toy" thing where you will get great results immediately (like we had with the Rent). But in EITHER location, you have to win to hold the attention of the fanbase.
