I'm a UConn alumni and season ticket holder for a while now. Sure, there needs to be improvments. Better score board, more and better seating, etc.
- Location is great as far as I am concerned. Central to the state. Easily accessable.
- Tailgating areas are outstanding and unmatched at many other universities. Wayyy better than parking garages or being stuck in someones front yard.
- Getting in and out is relatively easy. 195 would be an absolute nightmare if the stadium was in Storrs.
- Parking in Storrs is already a freaking disaster. put 40K people up there....no thanks. I would just stay home.

Yes, the Rent needs improvements. But the upsides is greater than the downside if you ask me. Now, all you people who disagree, put me on blast.

Right. In theory I would also love an on campus stadium. But where it is I can make games even when I have a conflict. I've had to show up late and leave early at times. If it was in Storrs? Not a chance. I have a lot of trouble going to games at Gampel for the same reason. Give my tickets away more often than not.

When you don't have a huge hardcore fanbase you need to make things accessible to the casual fan. Rentschler is the perfect location for that.

You want the Fairfield County fan and money? Campus is just not feasible.

u gyus r such hatrzez. waaaaah we dont wanna put a statiukm onc campus bc teh state would have to invest in infrastructure and the fedreal government would have to kikc in billions of $$$ to extend 384 to the ri border. it doesnt suprize me in the least u clownz have no imagination, just like the cloanzw in uconn. no leadership. if they had any competenc at all theyd already b following my plan. peep this.

first of all i get elected govenor. i think i might have to learn to type first, but no big woop. not like politics isnt full of idioos anyway hugh? while im campagning i establish a super secret pac (thats poliacl actnio fund, not pac 12/16/20 hahaha) of cash from espn and nbc. i tell them if u dont put in money i will take away ur tax breaks. sure they can just say and move threir offices out of state but this is my story so of course they go along. same thing with the big banks in stamford and the casinoos in se ct.

now im govenor and i got mllions in cash in a swizz bank. u guys heard about those chinese military hackerz that steal infos from us govt and corporatns? i make them an offrer they canr refute. ignore the fact that its illegal and theyc denver work for a usa gov. nayway now i got chinese hackers working for me and theyre fidning stuff out about congress and senators. like affairs and banging interns and shady stuff. even though everybooy expacts this kind of story and wont b surzprriszzd a arll, and even through congres is gonna cut all spending like cray, i think i can blackmall the whole cocngress inrto funding the new highway.if that doesnt work i tell the hackers to take over the us power grid. heck theyre already doing that. then i go on cnn. i got a big button and i tell the world 'if the us congress doesnt build a new highway from hartford to prov im gonna press this buton and then the powerr goes out just like that show that got cancealled. and while were at it how about a billion for the new uconn stadium.' boom. i mean, not boom like stuff blwoin up but bomm like my plan worked. of course it worked!

I like The Rent as well, but it has served it's purpose to get us in the game of big time football. If.... And that's a big if, we get into a big time conference we should look at a stadium on campus. This approach can help mend the problems with the lack of commitment we have seen with the students in the last 4 years,by coming late and leaving early to catch the first bus back to campus. As far as the extra travel time is concerned, I too would have a much longer drive than I already have coming from the shoreline, and I love the quick on/off access of The Rent, but if any of you we're fortunate enough to tailgate at the Maryland game you saw first hand that the tailgate experience on campus is outstanding. You don't have the 4 hr rule, you come as early as you want and leave as late as you want or not at all, and the UMD authorities were fine with that. It totally changes the whole experience. If we go to the ACC, The Rent will do just fine w/ some modifications. I know it has been mentioned that the residents on the access rd connecting Red Lot to I84 were a huge obstacle is preventing a stadium being built on campus, and this is true. However, w/ Pres Herbst' push to take Uconn to the next level, I don't think they could stop it now seeing what at stake in terms of the future of Uconn and all the momentum her vision has from the Governor etc.... I want to see what the final print looks like from the master architectural firm that was contracted to redesign the campus. Were we end up will drive this decision, if we are here in the NBE or the ACC then The Rent is no doubt our home for Years to come.

What's at stake? An expanded Rent answers the mail for any realignment. The $500 mil (probably more) to build an on-campus stadium would be better spent elsewhere. It would have no public support. Why do you persist with such nonsense?

Stadium should be on campus. After they build out Storrs and create enough things to do there besides football, it probably will be, if UConn sports last long enough.

I've lived in these football villes for a while and a one lane 30 miles road for 110,000 fans is no problem. People simply show up at different times, very few go straight to the game and leave. Many show up the morning of, many more the night before and they enjoy the campus, restaurants, events, etc. RV parks too! My friends who just purchased a new home in Ann Arbor woke up one morning to see 15 cars parked on their lawn at 7 am. No notice. The people parking there gave my friends the history of their home and all the previous owners. They'd been parking there for decades.

Whatever happened to that piece of land that was for sale next to Fed Ex up in Willington? Talk about best of both worlds. Right off the highway..literally. 6-8 miles from campus. If I remember correctly it was like 300+ acres and was for sale forever so something had to be wrong with it but if you can put a Fed Ex complex and a TA truck stop there why not a football stadium/sports complex.

Agreed though, the common sense approach would be to upgrade the centrally located Rent but you need infrastructure improvements on the I-91N to I-84E connector. A lane needs to be added there and the exit ramp on I-91N needs to be extended to get that traffic out of the 3 north bound lanes earlier. Folks from Fairfield county won't want to sit in traffic on I-91.

That is the worst of both worlds. Either have it located central to the state or otherwise walkable for students from the dorms.

Yes. Terrible idea. Rentschler is outdated, not obsolete. Any solution that still forces students to get onto a bus, mightbe left unsaid. In regard to catching a rie back to campus, can't the busses leave later? Students shouldn't b forced to leave early for fear of no ride back to campus.

Here's a good idea...Who is the main man that Global Spectrum is having take control of Rentschler? How about a kindly worded inquiry on their plans from Rentschler?

the fairfield county fans spens his whol life morning and night in traffic. 20 more minutes on 84 isn't going to stop anyone. hell if they build the roads up around storrs were going to bit*h down here for them to give the finger to wilton and finish off super7. u want fairfield county $???? your not getting it at the rent. ppl go there to tailgate for 3 hours and watch fball. your not getting a lot of $ from that. you have no vision. put that same person on campus, let them walk around to old buildings and things, go to local bars and w/e else. let them relive college 8 weekend every fall and 20 nights every winter. thats how u get more $ flowing. other schools have it right. its weekends and long days. events all on campus and in the small towns they make up. imagine 8 games in storrs, 40 bball games and 15 puck games. then 15 baseball games and 7 lax games. tell me about $ flowing then.

to codyj, im not going to argue with u as your a fav of mine here. the rent is completely fine right now for playing games. sure like u said the scoreboard and w/e needs a few touch ups but the rent is fine. i'm not saying the rent is shea stadium. what i'm talking about is bad decision after 5 more bad ones havve led to uconn never getting its act together and molding the exact wrong culture it needs to mold to become a big boy from everything football to endownment size. thats all. im just extremely interested in figuring out how to get uconn and its crapy leadership out of all these holes becuase i dont think they even realize they are in them. getting the state its $ back and starting new is what i want.

Ok. What I was referring to was Pres Herbst' vision to make Uconn a world class academic institution and her plan to redesign the Storrs Campus, something I would donate to support. It's an absolute eyesore on certain levels. That being said, this plan is in motion and is designed to compliment the academic plan that has already started. if the infrastructure requires additional/expanded roadways based on any plan to modify the campus, well I don't think Mansfield will be able to stop that. I'm sure they will have some say, and get some new roads etc... Out of the plan that comes at the expense of any upgrades but I think the climate is such that we need to get it right this time and i believe every effort will be made to do this. A perfect example of pay now or pay later is that of our hockey rink. The Uconn 2000 plan called for a much more robust rink than what we currently have, but in traditional CT half ass "lets save some money" fashion, the decision was made to build what we currently have. Nice building, and much better than what i played in, but here we are 10 years later having to spend more $ on a project that could of been done correctly at 1/3 of the cost 12 years ago. All that said, the million $ question is whether there would b a plan for a subsequent phase that would allow for an on campus stadium. Who knows, but I would think that any roadway expansion would occur under the first phase and be positioned as being "necessary" for any upgrades to the campus. Once they are in place, it's easier politically to work from there. Would it be great to have a stadium on campus, I think so based on the 10 on campus stadiums I've been to. Is it likely? I think about as much as us getting into the B1G. In the end, I think there is a lot at stake depending on which direction you want to see Uconn go both academically and athletically, that's all I'm saying.

You are outside of your own mind if you think that is what will happen if the stadium was on campus. My parents lived in Massachusetts when I went to UConn in the late 90's. They used to come and visit me at school for Parents' weekend and my dad pick another game and brought a couple of his buddies. We would tailgate in D-Lot (I had a pass), go to the D1-AA football game, and hang out at my dorm for a few minutes, if only to put away the care package. Only once did anyone want to stroll the campus and that was only to go to the old Co-op my freshman year. Never after that.

There are only two reasons people go to Ted's before/after a UConn basketball game. 1) To kill time if they beat traffic/To let traffic die down. 2) Because they don't sell beer at Gampel and they are getting a buzz on. It surely ain't because of the pizza or chicken lips...

It surely ain't because of the pizza or chicken lips...

and this is a good example of old culture. your talking uconn before what it was today, bball wasn't big time yet and fball was palying bumfuk u. times are different. when your yearly schedule is psu, ruty, uva, unc, gtech, tsou, md, umass, maine, buff and whoever things are different.
