The Refs

Officiating this year has been horrendous. They can't decide if they want to call it right or let them play. Changes play to play.
Last night Batts got called for traveling in mid dribble.

Yep they crossed at 25 and it's not actually 10 until 24……….

The call on Giffey when I believe Jackson was ahead of the field and created the contact and as Giff tried to defend and upon contact immediately a whistle on Niels……what are you know supposed to dive out of the way to allow him a free path? How dare you try to maintain your spot? These guys were really awful and you know what, the truth is refs are exposed for how little they know the game with this new no-contact on the defense call. The crappy one's who never played the game can't decipher the difference in defending and actual proactive use of the hands and body to get the advantage!….it's ugly

I get that you're not supposed to use your hands. Fine. But some of these kids were moving their feet and establishing defensive position and getting there, like Omar, and still getting the foul.

What's worse is the offensive player's push offs with the arm. The defender can't do it, but the offensive guy can. I know that Napier and Daniels are as guilty of this as anybody, and if that were called, it might actually hurt UConn, but fair is fair.

C'mon. How many times did Napier draw a foul just by jerking his head back? It looks like his progress is being impeded but it's really not. Kemba used to do it in the NC year. No doubt that's where Napier got it from. It seems that after playing Indiana that Napier, Daniels, and (to a less extent) Boatright know that if the drive they are either left with an open lane or a hand check foul. This move was in Indiana's scouting report, IIRC. It's become the pass interference of college basketball. That is why it is imperative to get these refs to call it more consistently, one way or the other.

last nights game, 39 fouls, 23 on guards, in a game where no one tried to foul at the end. The Louisville/Houston blowout, 40 fouls, also 23 called on guards. A foul a minute? These whistles are out of hand. They should not just make the call on the contact UNLESS there's position gained or lost, and the path is truly impeded by the contact. If not, just friggin' play on.
