This upcoming season will be Richie Springs 3rd yr being a Husky and, most likely, buried in the depth chart (again)… What has/is Danny saying to him that would keep him engaged?

Of course Olander was a starter.
in 2011 he only averaged 9 mpg and in 2014 he only started 4 games (and only averaged 8 mpg). springs could hit those marks this season

Auriemma likes to say that coaches want to play every kid on the team. He tells his kids figure out a way to contribute, don’t worry about being OK at everything, just be really good at something. He’s going to have an exceptional amount of talent on his team next year. It will be interesting to see how that theory plays out.

Maybe he just likes being on the team.

Or, he enjoys classes and his professors and likes the campus or he has met somebody here he is seeing.

Would he go elsewhere if a coach promised him PT?

If somebody knows him, just ask and let us know what he tells you.

In his small sample size -- 13 minutes of court time, he has always looked like a good basketball player to me. None of the overly cautious or overly reckless stuff we so often see from rarely used players when they finally get on the court. He shot 2 for 3 from the field including 100% (2 for 2) from 2 point range, and had 5 rebounds. 5 boards in 13 minutes would work out to a double digit rebounder if he was playing 25 minutes a game.
Obviously, none of those stats really mean anything, with a 13 minute at the end of blowout wins sample size. But dammit, he still looks like a real basketball player to me, and I hope he gets the opportunity to show us what he really has this season.
And he may have been here two years, but he was a redshirt freshman this year.

Because this one is dealing with a topic that no one has insight into, related to why or why not a current player would transfer.
How about all the recruiting post? Or post about other schools, other non Uconn players, rtc...? No real insight. That's why some of the post are so long. Many are insinuating, debating, hoping, and exaggerating. Lol. This topic is no different. It's a topic for discussion

Discussion or speculation?

He should be first in line to take Carlton’s minutes. I’m hoping to see him on the court as I too, liked how he played in his limited time on the court.

IMO.. RS has the physical talent to be a valuable bench player this year. The staff continues to be invested in his development and they obviously see his potential in practice on a daily basis. I trust Dan Hurley's eye for talent. This off season will be another opportunity to enhance his skill set and gain more SnC. Needs to earn PT in practice.

Agree with @tcf15 about using IW as an example of where hard work can get you. No one better than IW to deliver that message to RS.

Predicting he will be one of the surprise players on this year's roster. Still on the young side with 4 years of eligibility .

He threw down a nice dunk at the open practice they held the year before covid. Crowd went “oooo,” and Hurley responded “yea, yea, yea...he still has to play defense.”

I liked the little we saw out of Richie. Seemed coordinated and has good size. Hopefully, he contributes this year.
I agree. We don't see practice but he didn't look lost the few minutes he's played. There were games where he could have helped for a few minutes but never saw the floor. Has 2 years of barely playing stifled Richie's growth as a player or are we sleeping on springs?

Discussion or speculation?

The only speculation is he’s a four-star who’s been on our bench for two years and I’m impressed that he is still engaged despite not seeing much hope for PT anytime soon.

very counter-culture for most players today IMO

He’s a 3 star FWIW. If he was to transfer he’d transfer down, so he might not want to or need to.
