OT: The Open...who ya got?

Pro golf is very interesting. If you play conservative and just try for pars you can get hesitant amd make bogey.

But, if you know you have to shoot 64-65, you habe to always be aggressive which can also bite you in the ass.

Scottie hit 2 or 3 fairways in round 1 and shot 69. These greens aren't difficult- slow and relatively flat. Just get the ball on tje green in regulation.

If he is hitting fairways tomorrow, it will make for boring TV.
Feels like this course is playing much easier than past Opens

All Scottie has to do is play par golf. Like Tiger did in his prime. I'm more interested in seeing who smiles more. Scottie or Li- Who went off Tour for a few years to pursue being a Monk to honor his parents. Fascinating stuff.
The golfer who became a monk was actually Sadom Kaewkanjana, not Li. But Li is a great story of his own too

Matt F and Rory (among others) will be the chasers .Have the hometown fans behind them. They can be aggressive -take chances-go flag-hunting. Scottie will continue to be a leader in GIR and frequently be putting for birdies. From my perspective given his position going into Sunday- The only thing that can stop him is the weather or someone shooting a crazy low score from the chaser group.

He has spoken about utilizing the Tiger strategy- Let the chasers make the mistakes and just hit fairways and greens. IMO. He picks up the Claret Jug Sunday

It is. Most of the courses on the Open Championship rotation are sitting ducks if the weather is mild. Same goes for Augusta National.
One year can be -4 and next year is -20.

Open was toothless this year because of the weather. No wind, no rain, sunny and warm weather. Even the greens look manicured. Even if you hit it in the rough and the bunkers it wasn't that hard to escape. The Travelers played harder than the Open this year.

The result of all of this was a cakewalk for Scottie, the best player in the world. He had no stress to test his game.

Only interesting thing today was the twosome of Harris and Gotterup for 2nd place. Both played excellent golf was fun to watch. Gotterup had a great 2 weeks out there winning the Scottish Open last week could be what he needs to jump his career. Looks to have the goods.

Scottie is a machine!

It is fairly short and easy if the weather cooperates. More often than not the wind is howling but this Open has been relatively mild

They both have been playing well of late. For a period of time you tend to see the same person/people on the first page of the leaderboard for a period of time during the season. A couple seems to always be up there.

It'll be interesting to see if Gotterup is a Captain's Choice for the Ryder Cup.

It'll also be interesting if Keegan chooses himself. He's been playing great this year.

And hey, not that anyone noticed or cared, but Rickie Fowler, who's basically disappeared all year, had a top 15 finish at -8. Could it be he's back?

Scottie, like many greats in different sports, seems to use perceived or actual flights, as motivation.

Both Phil and Bobby McIntyre threw some shade towards Scottie this week and h3le dunked on them.

To be fair, Scottie's high fade depends on good weather at the Open, but links courses also tend to be puzzles which players need to learn how to solve. But once a player figures out links golf, they can be dangerous for a couple of decades.

I'd love to see Keegan take Gotterup as a Captain's pick if he doesn't qualify as an automatic.

Probably the guy I associate most with the high fade was Vijay Singh. He never mastered links courses. He did have one 2nd place finish, but in 25 tries (19 cuts made), he only managed four top 10s.

Scottie learned how to control ball flight growing up in Texas.. A challenging place with challenging wind patterns. His first two rounds at the Open in occasionally rainy and windy conditions were under-par. I would say he handled the wind pretty well. I would not call his tee shots (other than par 3s) high fades. He hit low window/mid window tee shots to adjust to the winds. His iron play was precise no matter what was thrown at him. Last two rounds were less windy and more favorable conditions that were reflected in the entire field shooting excellent scores-Scottie included. My point is he does not need favorable conditions to hit his fade shots-his ability to control ball flight and spin are exceptional.
