The Grateful Dead's Bob Weir had a side gig with a band called Kingfish
Jerry Garcia had a side project as well--with some giants of folk music--called Old & in the Way.
Genya Ravan and Ten Wheel Drive.
Back in the time when Blood, Sweat and Tears was new and jazz rock was a thing, there was Genya Ravan, who (if you look it up) had quite a history as a pathfinder in women's rock and roll. Anyway, they were on tour and played my college ballroom back in 1970 and I was blown away by them. Probably the first concert where I really connected to the music.
They cut a couple of albums but never got anywhere.
Thank you for confirming my thought at the time. I'm no country fan and I loved the original. And all I know about Brooks & Dunn was this inferior cover version. It made their career. I never liked Brooks & Dunn.I know this song as a Brooks & Dunn hit. The original sounds great. The remake barely bothered to change anything from this version.
Quicksilver Messenger Service - pretty talented group back in the 70's, one of the members did prison time for some infraction, and wrote a pretty good song about it all:
Some consider Gee to be the first rock and roll song.
I gave it a like because I remember it fondly as a kid. But it was a Billboard #1 hit! For 5 weeks! Obscure?
This is a widely performed song, both in the UK and Ireland. I first heard it by Steeleye Span as Skewball. Here’s an Irish version. I saw Andy Irvine solo a couple of times in the 80’s. He’s one of the best musicians I’ve ever seen.
