I guess it’s time for a new thread.

I don’t know what to think of the new Jets regime. They hire a first time GM and first time head coach and then hire experiened assistants to help the inexperienced head coach and GM.

I guess that makes sense….but it would be nice if they had some real experience in one of those positions.

Not sure what all these changes mean for Rodgers…but it’s hard to imagine their first time OC with their first time HC and first time GM want to deal with his baggage.

Jay Glazer reporting the Jets have told Rodgers they plan to move on from him.

I hope it’s just quick and cut and dry. Let’s do it and look forward.

Cimini reporting the same.

I agree…new staff…time fo move on. Obviously, the big question is what next for the qb position? I am ok with Taylor for one year if they want to draft a qb in the second or third round.

So I'm curious what Jets fans want to happen.
  • Darnold 2.0?
  • Fields?
  • Draft Jaxson Dart? (probably Rd 1) or Milroe? (Rd 2)
  • Try to move up for Sanders or Ward?
  • Dalton? Flacco and a rookie who won't play?

  • no on Darnold…plus I can’t see him wanting to come back to NY
  • Fields…maybe
  • Draft a qb in round 2 or 3..yes. Not sure who yet.
  • No on move up. They aren’t good enough to give up picks
  • No on Dalton or Flacco.

I think they might be interested in Cousins, Carr or Fields…plus draft a QB.

So…sign experienced qb..Taylor as backup….Travis or drafted qb.

But..this can all change as we approach FA and the draft.

  • Darnold 2.0? -- No way. Let the poor guy move on. Remember, he saw "ghosts" as a Jet.
  • Fields? -- The most intriguing option for me. I don't feel like he's much different from some of the other Caleb Williams or Bryce Young type prospects. Could he have a Mayfield type later bloom?
  • Draft Jaxson Dart? (probably Rd 1) or Milroe? (Rd 2) - Try to move up for Sanders or Ward? -- There is no one I want from this year's draft.
  • Dalton? Flacco and a rookie who won't play? -- I haven't heard either of those names. I have heard Carr or recently Cousins. Ugh. Hard to get excited about either of those. I've also heard Russ Wilson here or there. I could live with him.
I'd try Fields out.
I'd live with Carr, Cousins or Wilson for a year.

The truth is, they're not sniffing the playoffs for at least 2 more years. That's the worst thing about being a Jets fan. This whole lather-rinse-repeat process.

Have to trade for Cousins or Carr, and the case of Cousins, take a pretty big cap hit.

Fields is the upside move. Not sure who Pittsburgh will try to re-sign between him and Wilson, I assume Wilson.

Tanner Engstrand has not called plays in the NFL, so a veteran could be a good call. OTOH, both Carr and Cousins (particularly) are paycheck players. They put up the stats, but won't consistently win games on their own. Plus, with what they will command, coupled with Rodgers' dead money, the Jets will also presumably be devoting about 1/3 of their cap to the QB room and for what? A few more wins on paper, but no real improvement?

Depending on what the Giants do at #3, they may have to jump back into the 1st round to get Jaxson Dart.

I think they do both….draft a qb…and sign a vet. But…I doubt they trade up for anyone…the QBs just aren’t that good this year.

You know who might be good for them is Marcus Mariota.

I would hate to see him leave Washington because of the mentoring influence he has with Daniels, and the way Daniels plays they need a competent back up. He likes Kingsbury's offense and has expressed interest in staying. Washington wants to keep him too so we'll where the money shakes out.

He was only signed for a year, making $6M and is an unrestricted free agent.

Not a bad idea, if Washington is willing to let him go. If I were them, with Daniels under a rookie deal, I'd keep him around as insurance.

However, when he came out of college, the Jets had the #6 pick and there was a TON of talk about them moving up to take him. He also said, at the time, he would love to play in NY.

I like the idea of another vet to compete with Taylor while they develop a rookie. Everyone says someone like MIlroe needs at least a year on the bench. And we know Taylor needs an experienced backup due to his injury history.

Reports are that Garrett Wilson likes Taylor…and right now..keeping Wilson happy is a good thing.

Mariota…Cousins…Carr…or even Winston aren’t awful options.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Travis. It sounds like he suffered a setback with his rehab and now you have to wonder it he will get a chance with the Jets. Especially considering this regime didn’t draft him.

Also on the QB front…I have read there may be interest in Hendon Hooker..the backup in Detroit. Obviously, Glenn has had first hand experience with Hooker and I believe he has looked good in practice and pre-season.

A bit of an unknown, but may be worth a roll of the dice.

Hasselback mentioned that on ESPN. He was a 3rd round pick and was good at Tennessee. I think Mariota makes sense. I'm tired of betting on him because he never stays healthy, but he's the current backup that I think has the best chance of becoming a Geno Smith level starter if he could stay on the field.

So we go from a hall of fame QB and Super Bowl aspirations two years ago.......

To Marcus Mariota, Hendon Hooker, a new Coach, new coordinators and a new GM.

Awesome. I love this team.
