The team is sooooo flawed. You basically start multiple guys who rarely give you a competitive at-bat. I know batting average is a stat that no one cares about anymore, but I think it does matter when it comes to the postseason. If we're going to accept Grisham as a 230 hitter (which is actually high for him) because he draws walks and hits HRs against terrible pitching, then we have to accept that he won't do those things against good pitching. Which then reemphasizes that he is a bad hitter. Same with Wells, Volpe, Jazz, and the others in this lineup. Same crap every year. Come playoff time, they hope for solo home runs and strike out a gazillion times.

I really wish the Yankees would tear the whole thing down and start over. They've wasted the prime years of one of their all-time greats, and they'll enter the offseason looking to put band-aids on. But they'll still be poor defensively, bad baserunners, and still care more about launch angle and home runs than the fact that they struck out almost 10 times a game in the postseason.

This is up there with the Angels and Mike Trout, a first ballot Hall of Fame player that is denied a chance to play on the biggest stage of the sport. The problem is who is out there that wants to take on what Cashman and Boone leave behind?

Batting average absolutely does matter. Contact hitters, even if they aren't driving in runs can extend at bats and extend innings. The added pitch count placed on the opponent can get a starter out of the game earlier, then force them to use more bullpen arms.

I still firmly believe that the '98 Yankees would be 15+ games better in regular season in the current MLB environment than they were against 1998 MLB. They'd also be basically invincible in the postseason.

There is a lot that needs to be addressed but (although Cashman would never go for it) I would start with turning Volpe into an all fields, singles hitter. He'd be far more valuable hitting .270 or so with a half dozen home runs than (as the current approach leaves him) struggling to bat .200 but approaching 20 home runs. This team doesn't need him to be a home run hitter and (especially with the current stolen base rules) he can give the opponent something else to worry about if he's on base more and stealing bases regularly.

Their lack of just solid contact is ridiculous. We had multiple bases loaded moments in both series and I’m pretty sure scored one run on a walk. Pop ups and Ks over and over again.

I wish the Yankees would do an overhaul on their whole strategy. Putting the ball in play is a good thing and the whole “true outcome” thing is idiotic. The Jays killed us by just serving the ball the other way. We beat the RedSox bc we put the ball in play and forced them to play D. We made a run in game 3 bc of an error. Striking out for more than a third of your outs is not a way to win.

My one saving grace at this point is at least I don’t have to listen to Philly Phans gloating. Hoping we turn it around at home and make it a series because so far, it’s been rough.

You certainly will if the Phillies come out of this series. I root for a 50 inning game in game 5 and the winner of the series being swept by the Brewers. This Dodgers-Phillies series does feel like the WS winner.

The opt out has been discussed from the start of the season and has pretty much been inevitable for a few months. If the Yankees are willing to extend his years (I'm guessing he wants four or five) he'll remain a Yankee.

He's someone I wanted as on the team from the day I first found out he was a major league (seven or eight years ago). I still remember him running around Yankee Stadium infield with his father after we swept the Braves in 1999. It stuck out for me because he's my son's age it the image of a four year old running around a park with his father was immensely relatable to me at that moment.

My guess is we'll let Grisham walk, keep Bellinger to play centerfield until Spencer Jones is ready while they try to continue developing Dominguez.

I've heard the Mets have interest in him and the bug on him is that he really fell off after his MVP season and they're unsure whether to trust this rebound season is going to be a regular thing.

I thought Cody was older for some reason. He’s def the guy to keep. Grisham will be looking for a payday but let someone else give him his pot of gold. He had good moments but I could see his contract turning into an Aaron Hicks-esque “what on earth were we thinking” type of deal.

He's absolutely someone to try and keep. Still relatively young, good all-around player, good defensively at multiple positions, hits lefties, etc. He's not MVP Bellinger, but he's been a 5-WAR guy two of the last three years. And ironic or not, he's one of the few guys on the team who doesn't strike out all the freaking time (yes, he struck out to end the series.)
