Rumor has it Cashman has been offering Bellinger and Goldschmidt in trade discussions!
Because Judge is hurt management is giving up!
Yankee fans will go bonkers if this happens IMHO!

I wouldn’t mind a 2016-esque sell, especially if Judge can’t come back anytime soon.

Better chance to win in 2026 w Cole/Gil back.

Also, part of me wants to assign Volpe to a two-week “retreat” to Scranton. Hopefully there, he can reset his mind and come back strong in late August.

Throwing away this season because Hal and Cashman don't want to offer both contracts for 2026 sucks big-time!
It's all about saving $ to Yankee management, not winning World Series!
 
I get the frustration but I'm not sure it makes a whole lot of sense to get angry if they do trade Bellinger and/or Goldschmidt. We will need to make room, very soon for Spencer Jones and in all candor, the continued rotation of Grisham, Bellinger and Dominguez for two outfield spots wasn't helping Dominguez' development.

Of greatest importance, anyone who believes that this is a works series team needs to take a longer, deeper look at the team. There are a ton of flaws, that doesn't translate well to playoff baseball.

FfldCntyFan- - - I get where you're coming from, but my anger comes that Hal and Cashman early in the season knew what they needed and they had gotten Bellinger, Goldschmidt, Williams and Fried, which was great but they needed a 3rd baseman, at least 2 starting pitchers, 2 relief pitchers, possibly another outfielder!
And they did nothing till July!
If George were alive we'd have Bryce Harper, TJ Realmuto, (who weren't called in for interviews) several top pitchers, and NY would have won at least 3 World Series after 2009!
The Yankees are the richest team in MLB, worth over $3.1 billion!
And Hal spends like he owns the Pirates!
We're the freaking Yankees and he's cutting corners!
 
RSHERMVIKES, I fully agree on Hal's frugality. I have more of an issue with Cashman however. I don't want to get too deep into this (I could hit a few paragraphs) but his overall lack of any plan, the absence of fundamentals on all levels and his obsession with metrics that from appearances he doesn't fully understand are why we can't manufacture runs in big spots, always run out of pitching and all too often give the opponent four or five outs in an inning of a close game.

Overall, I think the moves so far have been "shrewd". 3B is secure and the bench is stronger without giving up top prospects.

Today is all about pitching. My one "hope" is that we get a starter/frontline reliever (ideally both) with a contract beyond this year. If we get rental pitchers, I'm not as keen to give up good value for them.

Here's my spin if I were GM and had free reign to trade: with Cruz, Leiter and Gil all looking ready to return in August, I'd trade Williams for a nice haul, trade a nicer haul to acquire Mason Miller (four years of control after this season) and then maybe trade lesser pieces for another reliever rental. Make sure to resign Luke Weaver over the offseason.

With Gil coming back, do we really need a SP3? Fried, Rodon, Gil is solid, maybe get an SP4/5 rental. Next year, a staff led by Cole, Fried, Rodon, Gil looks damn solid to build around.

But I digress...

In summary: no more bats, but would love a good reliever whose contract extends beyond this season.

We thought the same thing in the Spring.
 
They are 100% not doing anything anymore. Same thing every year. "The guys coming back from injury are like making a major trade."

 
We need a couple arms. I like the idea of what I read this morning, that if they can't land one of the relievers they're looking at they'll move Schlittler to the bullpen.

I still think they should have moved Gil to the pen late August last season to limit his innings. I don't understand why a management team that was overly concerned with a young pitcher's innings limit for decades didn't seem to care that Gil was going to end up so far beyond what a reasonable innings cap would have been. I would keep a close eye on him this year to make sure he doesn't reinjure his arm.

I like it! This feels like a steal. Flores is a solid prospect, but he's kinda a retread with Rice as a bat-first guy who is kinda a catcher, kinda a first baseman.

Glad to bring in a closer with control for next year too. And, we still haven't traded anyone in the top-eight of our prospects.

Yankees also trade for Rockies reliever Jake Bird, who's got team control for three more seasons after this year. Still, the Yankees haven't given up any of their top-tier prospects. Wow.

This will be interesting. First off, he has to close. He's been meh in any other role. He's been unconscious since mid-May, although sometimes nerve wracking. He's also the consummate yinzer. No idea how he's gonna respond to being away from Pittsburgh where he is everywhere. Surprised Nutting allowed Cherington to trade him as Nutting loves the guy and all he does for Nutting's charities.

Seems like a steal for you, but Cherington had to do something. We've still got a great pen without him, and he's gonna make >$7M next year. A non-competitive team doesn't need an expensive closer. Santana will do just fine. Happy to get a 1b/C who can actually contribute next year. Our catching situation is bad and 1b isn't much better. I like the deal. Hope it works out for both you guys and Bednar.

Bednar was so putrid last season. What is different now. I hate him. Cost me a fantasy bb season title, I think.

It feels like the Yankees went to Ocean State Job Lot for help.

He couldn't locate his breaking balls. Batters sat on fastballs and killed him. Don't really know specifics other than the shock value of being demoted to minors.

I'm updating my own post to note that I hadn't fully read through the returns teams got for other (sometimes worse) relievers (sometimes pure rentals).

Cherington did indeed get taken like a schnook. Or the Mets overpaid for Helsley. Given it's the Pirates, I'm going with the first.

Wow. Vrieling (#20) and Rodriguez (#26) were the only prospects in that haul there were on MLB.com's top prospects list.

Doval has two more years of control after this one.

Drew Gilbert (in the Rogers trade) is the only prospect they may regret. They definitely did not overpay for Helsey.

Rogers/Helsey/Diaz are going to be very tough to overcome down the stretch + they upgraded in CF without giving up Baty, Vientos, Mauricio or Acuna. For the first time in a long, long time I feel the Mets are the team to beat in the NL.

Last night, I was wondering how they'd fit all these trade acquisitions. Now, it all makes sense.

Once Gil is back on Sunday, here's the starting rotation: Fried, Rodon, Gil, Warren, Schlittler.

Looking at the bullpen, Williams, Bednar, Doval, Weaver, Hill, Bird are the no-brainers to keep once everyone is healthy. Loasiga/Brubaker/Headrick are on the team now, but Cruz, Yarbrough and Leiter are awaiting return from injury. Personally, I'm not crazy about Leiter, so I'd prefer to keep Brubaker on the team over him.
