I guess it's time to start a new thread.

The next week or two might be big for the Jets. Carr is visiting the team this weekend and Rodgers should be back from his "retreat" soon with his retirement decision.

It feels like we should know soon about those two. Stephen A commented he thinks Lamar Jackson would be a good fit for the Jets. I disagree....giving up multiple ones and significant guaranteed money would handcuff the team for years. And I don't like starting a dual threat QB who gets injured often.

My current prediction for next year's starting Jets QB...(I know I have waffled)...is Carr. Followed by Garappolo. I don't think they want the short term fix of Rodgers that will cost multiple picks.

Carr is not perfect...but he I'll provide stability that they desperately need. Draft an offensive lineman in the first round...and sign a mid tier WR. Offense would be set. Fall back is Garoppolo...and maybe re-sign White as insurance.

Fine. I’ll again go on the record and say my wish list is Rodgers, Jimmy G, LJax, Mayfield, Tannehill, Ryan and then Carr. Carr is a career middler and proven loser.

I respect that as opposed to me....you have been consistent.

I am still surprised you have Mayfield on that list. I haven't seen his name anywhere as a possibility. And for good reason...a quarterback starved team like the Panthers released him this year...yet you think he should be a starter in NY? Over Derek Carr?

At this point I’m good with Carr or Garop. I think with a Good (but not necessarily great) consistent QB and the other talent on the team we could be a playoff team.

From what I saw in his first game as a Ram, I’m willing to gamble on upside. He was the #1 overall pick. I’ll take the risk/reward over something safe and mediocre right now.

And the following week he was 11-19 for 132 yds in a loss.

I really am surprised...after years of awful quarterback play....you want to sign another failed quarterback because he was a number one pick.

If Mayfield is lucky...he would get to mediocre. Or...he will play like most of his career....crappy.

Sorry... Mayfield over Carr is a crazy take.

And the following week he was even worse. 9.4 QBR.

So..... Rodgers is back from his time in darkness...and says he will decide soon. At the combine, the Packers GM said he hadn't spoken to Rodgers yet. I guess Rodgers will be revealing his next steps through his Pat McAfee visits as opposed as going through his GM.

This will repeat itself next year...if he decides to play this year. The Jets don't need this drama. They need to move forward without Rodgers. Make the pitch to Carr....then Garappolo. Then work on building the team around them.

I’d still take Rodgers.

How much would you give up for him?
I don't care. This D is in position to do something. I'm not going to be cheap on a 2025 draft pick during yet another potential GM/HC/OC/QB rebuild 3-4 years from now.

It's more likely to be the number 13 pick in this year's draft...and probably next year's #1.

Sounds like you are desperate to win this year and you are willing to push all your chips in and hope it works out.

If Rodgers wasn't 39... I would agree. If Rodgers wasn't a diva...I would agree.

Desperate? I don't know. I'm 55. I've followed them since I was maybe 9 (1975-76) and don't have any connection or recollections of SB3.

Let's go back to 1990. 2 coaches over .500 - Parcells and Al Groh who lasted 1 season. A Win % of .426 overall, .435 for the last 22 years going back to 2000 and .338 since Rex left. One coach with a winning playoff record (Rex).

Why are we still being "prudent"? You really want to roll the dice that Derek Carr changes the direction of the franchise? I don't. Ryan Tannehill? Sure. Call me desperate. I'd prefer to SEE them in a Super Bowl while I'm alive, I guess.

I am 58...so I have a similar history with the Jets.

I think where we differ is our assessment of Carr. I do think they can get to the Superbowl with him. And I do think he will give them five plus years of stable quarterback play with a chance to make Superbowl runs.

You think Carr is a bad quarterback. So...I can see why you are all in on Rodgers.

I just really hope it's one of the two. They might be ok with Jimmy G...but that is a distant plan b.

I had heard recently there was real concern about Carr being able to handle New York. I wonder if the Jets backed off....or Carr decided he didn't want Jets drama. From the Jets comments....I wouldn't guess it's the latter. They seemed to like him.

Oh well...on to Rodgers or Garappolo. It feels likes it's going to be Jimmy G. I still think Rodgers stays in GB.

For the money you would pay Carr or Rodgers...you can pay Garappolo and White. Not the worst case scenario.

I’d take that. I’m also now hearing (gulp) they’re looking at the first round pick for a qb again. Wow.

At 13...who? Seems like the top4 will be gone. Number five seems early at 13. But maybe Hooker in the second round?

I was looking at Hooker for the Pats. I think he's the guy to take if you want a developmental QB. But he isn't starting games in the NFL next year.

I like him... but hard to take in th first round. Pats maybe... definitely not Jets. They need a QB now.

So...we wait on the drama queen.

And... Garappolo is off the board...as is Mike White. With Tua's history...we will probably see White on the field often. It would be classic Jets if White turns out to be a franchise QB at Miami. Not saying he will...but it would be a typical Jet thing to happen.

It's interesting that the team that had Carr...let him walk so they can sign Garappolo.

Cimini said the Jets never considered Garappolo as a plan b. Why? Other than being injury prone... why wouldn't he be considered? The guy can win games.

So...if it's not Rodgers....they now say a trade for tannehill...or cousins...or Stafford.

I have a bad feeling about this.

It sounds like Rodgers to the Jets is a done deal.
