What a disaster that was. They HAVE to make a move now. 4 PM tomorrow can't come without a big bat.

Sucky turn of events last night. You have to feel bad for Flores and you can't blame the front office. It's not their fault the news broke before it was official.

Who is the Mets mo mo who leaked the news? Terrible job. I have no issues with Alderson or Collins for how this broke. I think this falls on the media.

The deal was probably worked on by Sandy's assistants. Got finalized. News leaked and then when Sandy saw the medical records said nope the clusterfark was in full swing.

He's not in the starting lineup.
Yeah I saw that but... he's not a starting player for this team anymore so I wouldn't read too much into it. I'm not saying there isn't a deal coming but I don't think him not starting means much. As for the ovation comment, he'll get a good reaction if he's given the chance to pinch hit. (edit: I probably wouldn't play him at all today. Let the media speculate about the implications all they want. You have to think he won't be able to shake the feeling he might be gone today so just hold him out until tomorrow when the deadline has come and gone.)

Meh... almost every trade these days is leaked as "deal is agreed upon pending physicals." This is just the super rare case where a physical came back with a red flag. I can't blame anyone for it really... just a crazy turn of events in a time where information spreads to millions of people within minutes.

Mets have a 2 run lead in the 9th with 2 outs and nobody on. Commence downpour. Rain delay.

I can't wait to see who comes out and blows a 2 run lead with an 0-1 count, 2 outs and nobody on.

Unbelievable. Send Familia back out after a 45 minute rain delay. Gives up 2 singles and a homerun to give the Padres the lead. And we go to another rain delay.

When you can't trust anyone else to come in and get one out with a two run lead, you have a serious problem.

This has been a very painful 24 hours so far.

Maybe painful enough to make Sandy pull the trigger on another deal. Maybe tell Upton to stay in town?

I hope it doesn't have the opposite effect, i.e., he says f it now that we're headed three back of the Nats if we don't pull it out in the bottom of the ninth.

I could see it going either way. Part of me is just hoping this weekend is a sweep one way or the other. Tie it up or kill the season.

It's not enough that we have to endure Collins taking Niese out after 87 pitches in favor of Parnell who has looked awful since coming back from surgery. We then have to deal with a debacle of a rain delay followed by a 3 minutes window of playing, followed by what is likely to be a suspended game. And this is really just a cherry on the crap storm that has been this year. And yet somehow at worst they'll be 3 games out.

Well the "good" news is that we apparently win this game under the rules if it ends up as a called game, because they go back to the score at the end of the last full inning under these circumstances.

Anyone got an update on how the weather is looking there and if there has been talk of when/if it might resume, or when/if they call it?

It is impressive how many different ways the Mets can screw up a good thing.

I hope the next 24 hours are better. And that the 72 hours after that are even better.

Sandy better have a Gomez voodoo doll, and he better pull a comparable outfield bat out of his ass in the next 20 hours or else "Gomez's hip" is going to haunt him.

Looks like the stink is on Alderson for backing out of the Gomez deal. Serious blow to his credibility both with the fans and as a trade partner. Sounds like he tried to use the hip as an excuse to chisel the price down and got the rug pulled out under him. Which probably means he either won't be taken seriously by others, or he'll have to overpay to get a different deal done now.

Either way, really amazing turn of events this week. Goat to hero to goat to...?

All I know is that if 4 PM comes and we don't have a new bat in the lineup you will see a media/fan backlash like we've never seen.

You would think they'll get something done before then though bc of how the perception is, how the players and fans must feel and their own personal credibility.

Honestly...if we don't I kinda hope we get swept and this season goes downhill quickly. They'd deserve it.

Familia is stinking up the joint lately. That has got to be the worst loss in years, or at least the season .
The Gomez debacle was about money and it is on that kook Sandy.
He's the Mets Warde and Collins is Pasqualoni.

I'm interested to look at Gomez's numbers this time next year and see if he's rebounded. If the next year and a half is just a repeat of the current season to date, I don't think I'd trade Wheeler for him. Gomez has just 7 steals this year while being caught 6 times after going 34/12 last year (exactly half the games played this year) and his OPS is down about 80 points from the previous two years. If he bounces back, I think the Mets made a huge mistake. If he keeps on the way he is or has to miss any time from the hip injury, I think they made the right call.

Word is picking up that Bruce to the Mets is a likely scenario. Prior to the whole Gomez situation, there were reports the Reds were interested in Wheeler so I'm guessing we'll see a similar package for Bruce. It would be awesome if they found a way to get Bruce and Chapman. A man can dream...

Yes, as of an hour ago it was reported Wheeler for Bruce in the works. Bruce is under contract through next year.
We are not getting a w/c slot, now have to win this damn division. Odds of us sweeping the Nats? 10%?
Getting swept? 75%.

No way you can put the odds of getting swept that high given the pitching we have going. I know it feels that way though...

Bruce is under contract through next year and has an option for the following year. His contract is a pretty solid value. He's a better player than Granderson and making a couple million less than him. I think most would agree Granderson is earning his $16 million this year so Bruce at $12.5 and $13 million the next two years makes a ton of sense. Whether or not our friends the Wilpons are willing to commit to that though...

Interestingly enough, that option year allows Bruce to be trade bait at the deadline next year should the Mets acquire him and things don't go well for whatever reason.

Looks like the Bruce deal is dead and we're now trying for Cespedes; and apparently there is concern that Cuddyer may not be back anytime soon.

53 minutes and counting...

If they couldn't get Gomez or Bruce then they ain't getting Cespedes.

Watch them get Jake Marisnick.
