The James Bond election challege for drinkers

As we know it might take 7 days to finalize the new ruler of our realm, so it seems appropriate to have a game to get us through this week of uncertainty.

James Bond Challenge - 7 movies and 7 drinks.

• Dr. No (1962) Vodka martinis
• From Russian With Love (1963) Vodka martinis
• Goldfinger (1964) Bourbon and water
• Thunderball (1965) Scotch
• You Only Live Twice (1967) Bourbon
• Diamonds Are Forever (1971) Vodka martinis
• Never Say Never Again (1983) Scotch

Totally open to brands of alcohol. It's up to each BYer to decide repeats or a new brand each time.

I will go with Grey Goouse for my Vodka, totally open for suggestions on Bourbon and Scotch.

For bond, it was "shaken, not stirred". But according to the "mixology" experts, any coctail made of only spirits (no mixers, juices etc) like a martini shoud be stirred not shaken. That's why he had to specify. Such a rebel, that 007.

Shaking the drink breaks down the ice and waters down the alcohol. So, basically, he was weakening his martinis and diluting what was probably the top of the top shelf in some Monte Carlo casino.

From what I know, the gin martini is the "classic" martini. Vodka is the arguably the most popular liquor in the world so I think it's just a way to, well....sell more vodka. When I was bartending, an older guy ordered an extra dry Ketel One martini. When I picked up the vermouth, he said "No, no, no....I don't want any of that "stuff" in there". When I pointed out that would just be a glass of vodka, he said "I'd like an extra dry Ketel One martini" and smiled.

I bartended a decade ago. If someone ordered a martini and you gave them gin, they'd look at you sideways. And this was in a 40's to 60's age group establishment.

Vermouth is no longer a thing either.
