Skylar is an expert of using Social Media and entertainment shows to increase her recognition. :)

In my book that doesn't make her a genius. social media isn't new and getting "it" out there via these mediums isn't new.

If she had invented these tools, well then she may be a genius, but she is merely using the tools available to anyone actually to further her brand.

She simply needs to be seen in my opinion. That is all.
 
I hate that I'm starting to warm to the idea that "Stone is coming to UCONN". Whenever I get my hopes up, they always get dashed.

Stone, Enoch, Jones, and Newman are NOT coming here. There we go.
 
I intentionally put Question Marks after Genius as I knew some would agree/disagree with my choice of words. IMHO since her enrollment at Notre Dame, Skylar has been the most effective WBB player in using Social Media in increasing her Name Recognition. Add to that, her use of the Head Band while at Notre Dame as a signature item also helped. Its why her Jersey is the second highest selling in the WNBA. If she was drafted by a major media market team, Skylar would be #1. Shoni's support by Native American's also helps her Jersey sales.

BTW, I don't think Skylar's is doing anything wrong, in fact she's being smart as she'll probably be making more money in a few years then any other player in the WNBA. It won't be from playing, but from the Marketing Deals she's made. She's also bringing attention to WBB and that has to be helping the WNBA.

She is playing much better right now than I ever thought she would.
 
I think Skylar is a good business woman, and she capitalizes on the input from her management company - which happens to be JayZ's group (you know - the people who gifted her a Mercedes at her graduation..) So her use of social media is part of her brand strategy. Just like Maya is in business with Nike/Jordan, Skylar is with JayZ.

Well put. Her team of marketing folks have been genius in the way they have used social media to her benefit and it's very smart of Diggins to capitalize on her popularity, now, while she's still young and single. Unlike many others, she does not need to go overseas to prosper financially. She has also shown that she can train in the states and improve her game to the point of being a top player in the league. Most players do not have the luxury of remaining state side, while also earning a hefty income. Another good point is how she is helping bring more attention to the W and that's always good. Good for her!
 
I don't have much use for anything Skylar. But, if I discount the pouty face, chest thumping, knodding of the head (like yep I'm wonderful) she was a pretty good player. Not Uconn caliber but ok for ND. Saying that she IS and WAS the greatest self promoter in High School, College and now with the pro's. Can't fault her for using whats available--but I agree that in no way makes her a GENIUS"!!
 
I dig Diggins.

I know at heart she wants her team to be a contender but the fates went against her in the draft. If she had been drafted by the New York Liberty then she'd be twice as popular.

I liked the look she had on her face during the game against the Sun. Not exasperated like last year...

Yes she's good with social media, and she's got attitude, and tons of talent, but the main reason she is so popular is that she is smoking hot. Every guy knows who she is, whether they care about WBB or not.

Didn't hurt that she went to ND either. That's some of the best exposure you can get as an athlete.

I'd call this video "sophomoric", but due to all the silly, grade school level, misogynistic double-entendres it contains, that description would be a compliment.
 
It won't hurt the rest of women's basketball if a savvy and marketable player like Diggins wants to spread her image as wide as possible. In a roundabout way, it may even help women's basketball. So, go Skylar; I don't especially root for her on the basketball court, but now that the ND days are done, she's no longer the Great Enemy. ;)
 
Skylar can come to my home in Ellington and twerk it for me anytime...as long as she doesn't claim that this is her house!
