I think we all saw this coming. The turnover in coaches. Mostly flippers fault. His big mouth. And, aside from hockey. bcu's poor performance in high profile sports where he unfairly dumped the coaches.

Well I'm sure that Susan and Jim will be happy to give Gene an appropriate sendoff!;)

Retiring? Is that what they're calling it these days?

Make the ACC happen, Susan!

I've been expecting this since the big oops of saying that ESPN told the ACC to raid the BE. As much as get a laugh of how pitiful BCU sports have become, this guy is a blood enemy of UConn. It will be interesting to see if the ACC reaches out to us. I hope we have a good idea of what NBC has to offer before then.

DeFilippo said he plans to remain active at BC by teaching a sports management course and serving as a consultant.

"Don't ever let those $uckers at UCONN into the ACC. Block them at every turn"... I imagine that is pretty much what his consulting will consist of. Seriously, though, given that conference expansion is all about maximizing $$, is there any pressure on the ACC to expand at this point?

The big east is an amalgamation, really, of a bunch of disparate parts. I can't see it lasting for any length of time...

The Big East is a big duck*ing unholy mess of schools that have to Google each other just to find out where they all are.

If DeFilipo has one regret, I bet it's that the hockey program somehow survived his tenure. The big takeaway from his career is not the ACC - Miami did that for him - but that he simply laid ruin to his athletic department. You don't see athletic destruction like that often - and never without Isiah Thomas being involved.

And thus, he loses his job.
