DC desperately needs a new profession. I don't think I've ever witnessed a beat writer try harder to make a season's worth of coverage all about him. If a fan questions what he writes, he gets all defensive and whines. If he asks a ridiculous question and then gets called out on it, he opens his next column with "delirious...crazy...nuts".

I love Diaco's attitude. All the trolls and naysayers can pound sand. Whether they go 13-0 or not, Diaco is installing a winning attitude and is not afraid to shake things up. After having a zombie at coach for three years, the players were out of shape, mentally soft, and expected to lose. It was pathetic and I was embarrassed for the players. When losing stops hurting a program is in trouble. Now if they lose, it will hurt because they expect to win and they will hold each other accountable.

I question whether the naysayers / trolls / critics ever played sports seriously because they clearly don't understand the mentality it takes to be a winner.

With all the words he is protecting his players. I am looking forward to how different this year will be compared to last year. We've got a big chip on our shoulders and expectations by the team are to get things back to the way they were 3 seasons ago. Accepting losing is out.

He made a few head scratching moves for sure. But to make a blanket statement that he was awful clearly shows you don't understand why he made some of the moves he made.

I'm a believer in Diaco, for now. Last year was just a complete tear down and rebuild. It was one long experiment.

But I have him on a short leash. He has to show real progress by December 2016. I don't ever want to see us losing again to 0-11 teams at home while coughing the ball up five times.

Here is how you let go of last year: Let's say UConn loses to Michigan at Atlantis (that's a basketball game Jimmy). Does the 2014 National Championship make you feel any better about that loss? It was only 18 months ago. If the past wins don't make you feel any better who gives a damn about last years losses anymore?

Well if he turns things around, he's a mad genius. If not he's just mad.
I honestly don't think he totally got just how demanding the UConn fan base is. We are used to winning championships across the board. As pal says, we pile up conference titles like cordwood. And compete for national ones in multiple sports. In contrast, I think Cav got that and knew he couldn't go 2-22 in Hockey East like folks were predicting. Diaco didn't get it. Add the fact that unlike a Memphis, we had a winning program not decades ago but 3 years ago. And throw in the conference situation and there is huge pressure to turn things around.

Cav had a some one in goal. His offense was as bad as the football team's.

Good coaches can get the most out slow fat kid, and can be competitive with other bad teams. Diaco had our program very poorly prepared to compete in games. We can argue all day about who, how, what, where and when they demonstrated they were so poorly prepared for game experience, but the why is always the same. Preparation wasn't good enough. That's why.

Come 9/3, it will be one full 12 game season, two spring camps, two fall camps, and approx 18 months of real calendar time to supervise the program when it comes to assembling a roster and both physically and mentally preparing them.

Is that enough time? To prevent poor performance? Can Diaco even do it as a head coach? TBD.

He's started to grow as the CEO, delegating, getting his guys on his management team and into the key organization roles. He has shaken it up to sort out who will run the three organizations that are on the field. He has not stagnated, he has changed.

It's what you get from a new head coach; at least ours is crazy and willing to improve.

When Miami had a team that young, they were under .500

The same group as upperclassmen went undefeated and put the more players into the first 2 rounds of the NFL draft than just about any team in history.

I disagree, the most competitive we looked to me was against BYU and East Carolina. Against teams like Tulane, etc. Not so much. Did you forget the opening sequence on D vs. Tulane? We scrapped most of the offensive playbook against USF.

Whatever. I'm excited about another football season, but my optimism is very, very cautious.

Yes, I think Saban would not have much of an impact with that roster. If Diaco had to sacrifice a few games to see what he had (and it wasn't much thanks to his predecessor) then so be it. No matter what he did we were not beating Boise or BYU.
