The Cooper decision

He’s obviously going pro but I’ve always wondered what a lottery pick guy does between late March and the combine? Do you just chill on campus? Do you even go to class? Is it workouts and video games?
I would hope that he chases whatever quality tail there might be at Duke, but who knows what the kids are into these days.

I have a better chance of starting at the 4 next year for UConn than Flagg does of returning to Duke.
Might it depend on who has the #1 pick or must he declare before that is known?

This serious? Kid has to be the best prospect since Wemby and before that Lebron?
I have not heard a single person comparing him to LeBron James. Anthony Davis and Zion were better prospects. Cooper ceiling is an all star cross between Austin Reeves on offense and and Andrei Kirilenko on defense.

You day drinking?

He’s going to be the first pick in the NBA draft. He’s not going back to Duke.
Not drinking.

In all seriousness, I don't mind taking your punches. If one big name like this did return, even for one more year, it would send a message about how much better cbb is than the NBA. It makes me sad when people I love to watch go into that league. I just heard from someone that the playoffs are starting. That's cool.
As the first pick in the NBA draft he's guaranteed to make a minimum of $23.6 million for 2 years of work. More than most of us will make in our entire careers. Yeah I don't think there's even a sliver of a chance he goes back to Duke.

Austin Reeves?? Cmon now you’re just hating.

The pros were raving about him when he scrimmaged with Team USA last summer and he was clearly the best player on a Final Four team that probably should’ve won it all at 19 years old. He’s ceiling is way higher than Austin friggin Reeves

We've had a bunch of draft picks the last 2 years and there have been a few articles about what they do. They will go train wherever their agents suggest they train. I think they all take their classes online so they finish their semesters in good standing. Or is that even a thing these days? I remember Hawkins saying he was doing his classes online. Karaban also last season.

I did a Google search on what players have declared. Here's what came up in AI.

Several college players have declared for the 2025 NBA draft, including underclassmen like Cooper Flagg (Duke), Dylan Harper (Rutgers), Liam McNeeley (UConn), Asa Newell (Georgia), and Kon Knueppel (Duke). These players, along with others, have the option to withdraw their names from the draft and return to college if they choose to do so. The deadline to withdraw and retain college eligibility is April 26.

So I guess AI thinks Flagg already declared.
No Derik Queen love? Another reminder of how good that Montverde Academy team was. And Robert Wright got a nice check to stay in college.

Reaves is gonna be an all star in a season or two I wasn’t trying to hate

a hybrid of Reaves on offense and Kirelenko on defense is an All Star and HOF caliber talent. Cooper has a higher ceiling to reach on offense than Reaves due to his athleticism but Reaves is a really good offensive player.

He hasn't declared yet. Even though : He will be the number one pick. He will make more money in the NBA.

My honest guess is that he will declare soon, but should the hesitancy make us question the relationship this new college paradigm has with the NBA?

I've amended this thread to make my intention more clear. Pressure will put him in the draft but he's already rich, he loves Duke and prob hates what happened in the tourney. A competitive guy like him, I for one would not blame him for going after a natty, inking his Duke legend and be the top pick next year as well.
Or he's planning on transferring so he can have a college experience that doesn't involve weird baby stuff?

On a side note, Kyle Filipowski's situation is tragic.

Reaves averages 20, 4 and 6 in his fourth year in the league. I would bet my house that Cooper far exceeds that by his fourth year. That directly disputes AR as his “ceiling”.

Also, I agree Reaves is good but I do not think he’ll crack the all star rank any time soon. Most people would agree that Jamal Murray is a better player and he’s never been an all star.

Reaves is a little smaller, but has a similar game. You could go so far as to nickname him “The Reduced-Sized Cooper”

You’re ignoring my defensive comp and I disagree other than Flagg averaging more rebounds. Only 10 players in the league average over 20-5-5 he’s not going to far exceed that. I’m also a nugget fan and I would trade Murray for reaves in a second he’s breaking down and reaves is still improving.

Agree to disagree. I think Flagg will be big time. Easily one of those 10 guys eventually.

We shall see.

Where have you been all week? We replaced AK with RJ Luis. It's covered in the "Just when you thought you knew..." thread.

Next year is going to be fire.
