Out of curiosity -- will any of you season ticket holders attempt to sabotage the trophy at the BBQ? This could be your one chance to have an impact on the program's publicity...

You mean like painting the UCF logo scarlet?

Ask yourself who were the best players last year. Count how many were true frosh. If u don't like our freshman OL, RBs, TE, LBs, and CBs, then you don't believe he can recruit. I thought the true frosh showed something across the board. And I believe the so-called big, smart, and nice kids can play.

Judging from the comments in this thread, I was thinking something along the lines of stealing it and throwing it in an incinerator. If you folks want to get rid of this embarrassment to the program, take matters into your own hands!

Here's what I hope happnens, UCF actually does recognize this and they win this year so they accept it and then we have to put a sack of oranges on the stand in the Burton all off-season long.

Also, while we're on rivalry games and trophies. WTH don't we actually establish something real with UMass... I mean at this point, we both could use one another for scheduling each year, and we're receptive to conversation with one another (unlike BC or 'Cuse until recently). Let's make a New England FBS football rivalry game happen!

Possible UConn/UMass Game Name Ideas:
  • The Battle for the Yankee Cup
  • The Border Battle
  • The Battle for New England
  • Battle for the Lobster Pot Trophy
Mass-Conn Fusion

How many were committed to UConn before Diaco and how many were after Diaco was hired? I love Carrezola. There are good young players on the squad. And I don't doubt that some of the kids will be good. But I can't look at a class with 24+ kids, the majority of which are 2* lottery tickets, and completely write off recruiting as an issue.

Now we're up to 6600 views and 185 replies on the Boneyard and who honestly believes you can have a rivalry because you proclaim it?

It's just smart publicity.

WTIC talks about this on air for ten minutes. No problem from my point of view.

The recruits will come as they did last year. My guess is they will get their first commitment after their first camp. Once recruits see the campus and see what the university has to offer each player and his family.

I like the conflict bowl or whatever it is called and hope no one brings up UMASS ever again.

The more I think about it, the more I think Diaco really missed on a big opportunity here. It would have been way better if he made the Civil Conflict retroactive, and put last year's game in the first slot, UConn 37 - UCF 29. That would have been epic levels of hilarious! ;)

There's still time, Bobby. Check the clock on the trophy. There's still time...

I'm pretty sure he did?

Did he really???

It's hard for me to tell with that Twitter picture. Hopefully someone with better skills than me can blow that up so I can confirm that. IF HE DID, that is the best troll move ever and everyone on this board should be laughing it up.

Losing to a 2-10 team? Costs many thousands of dollars on a missed better bowl appearance.
Having a 2-10 team create a trophy and engrave the loss? Priceless...

I blew it up a bit, still not 100% certain but it appears it says 2014, UCONN, and the game score.

Top is 2014. UConn clearly second. Third appears to be a score since the - would blur a low resolution image such as this.

Thanks for doing that. That's so fantastically funny...

The only trophy that matters is a bowl trophy. If your not playing for one of those then your not doing your job and that not only goes for the head coach but the whole staff and the players. It isn't about the fans, they'll be there when there is something to be there for. It isn't on the AD, he's not the one out there coaching or playing. It's all about the 100+ men, both players and coaches, representing the school the right way as they each agreed to when they signed a contract or a letter of intent. Get it done!!

This is April 1st right and so ridiculous. UCF. That's the narrative? Really?

UConn-UCF ... lame.

Some legitimate UConn rivals, given the right situation: BC, Syracuse, Rutgers, Temple, Cincinnati, UMass.

If the stars aligned correctly, any one of those schools *could be* a good rival. But when I think of rivals, UCF would be about #15 or #20 on that list. I'd put USF ahead of them based on our years in the Big East together and because nearly all of our games with USF have been very close.

there is only one true rival on that list, but they are a bunch of dimwitted jackwagons who have tried to exclude us with backroom shenanigans because they are too afraid to put it on the field.

I love the fact Bob gives a ship! He is going to sink or swim with his decisions and realizes he has three seasons to get the ship headed in the proper direction or end up walking the plank! Let's hope he has something for Army also.

why wont this thread die

Because it's on the verge of becoming "Bucket Hat 2015." I google imaged civil conflict to see what the mojo possibilities were and amongst a sea of war and poverty pictures were a handful of UConn and UCF photos, so at least we know the phrase is available.

why wont this thread die
Ahh yes...Leave it to a Jerk to add a post to a thread he wants to die...:D You just gave it another dimension! Obviously much smarter than you give yourself credit for ...ooops.
As I was typing you did it again. Like Diaco simply genius! :)

There are scads and scores of fans whose response to being in the AAC has been to incessantly point out what a crap conference it is, how spread out it is, how awful some of the schools are, and so on. The solution to the problem that they offer is, "we need to get out of this conference ASAP."
This is like we're all sitting on a compromised boat, complaining of its list, bemoaning the unsanitary condition, and otherwise engaging in a non-stop pity party whilst we parrot, repeatedly, "what we need is a new boat," notwithstanding that no new boat is in sight or expected any time soon.
Diaco is bailing. From what I can see, he's bailing as fast and as hard as he can. He's working with what he has. Was the rivalry thing, retrospectively, a poor choice? Yep. Did he make rookie mistakes as a head coach last year? Yep. But the dude is bailing like a madman, and I'm not exactly sure what people want him to do. Win? That's the advice. That's like yelling to a drowning man, "swim!"

The guy inherited this from PP:
toilet-overflowing.jpg

It's been only a year and a bit. He barely knows his players. He's had little to time to learn how to be a head coach.
It's striking to me how aggressive the more radical fans are are at calling for his head. If the more belligerent fans had their way, he may already be gone, and some new guy would be sitting there, surveying the sinking vessel, having people scream at him, "we need a new ship. This ship sucks. You have 3 hours to find one."
It's becoming normal in our world to quickly and openly mock people for any perceived failure through distal media portals, and with impunity and without accountability. We're becoming a nation, and world, of mean girls, perching like vultures, waiting for anybody to slip so we can caw out at them, mock and laugh and condescend. Shame on us for not supporting Diaco through thick and thin, particularly given the short time he has been here and the fecal mess he inherited. The guy didn't put the gash in the hull. He just was the guy who agreed to come aboard and work to right it.

I don't use this word lightly - I think the guy is incredibly brave to put himself out there, likely knowing what the reaction would be. He's soldiering on. I respect that immensely, notwithstanding any missteps along the way, and I think it's petty and small to pile on our head coach when his single and obvious motivation is to improve the team and the program.

I think people are just concerned that the guy might be mental.
