Time for a Poll as most teams wrap up con-conference play, and the conference races hit full swing. SEC teams play only weak non-conference opponents this coming Sunday. It starts getting serious after January 1.

So, Let's see your Top 16 based on your opinion of how they have played up though New Year's Day at midnight when the poll closes. I will tally them up on January 2, 2026.

1. UConn
2. Texas
3. SCar
4. UCLA
5. LSU
6. Michigan
7. TCU
8. Michigan State
9. Oklahoma
10. Maryland
11. Iowa State
12. Iowa
13. Kentucky
14. Nebraska
15. Vanderbilt
16. Louisville

Michigan State #8? I guess someone has been hitting the eggnog early...For me, I like Oklahoma at 8, Kentucky at 9, Louisville at 10 as they played UConn well, SC very well and lost at home vs. Kentucky by 10. After that 10, I go Maryland, Iowa State, Iowa, Vanderbilt, Ohio State and Michigan State (while I was impressed with their big win vs. Ole Miss, they did lose at Wisc so they are suspect to me but better than Nebraska who has played absolutely NO ONE-OOC #84.

1-7?

1-7?
I am not sold on TCU there at #7 but it's plausible, Campbell has done a great job bringing the plethora of transfers but he will have to get a core of players to gain cohesion and continuity and he needs to up his OOC. Add in the fact the Big 12 is pretty weak for high quality teams and this Horned Frog team could build a gaudy record without actually proving anything. But Miles does make those around her better. I would put Oklahoma #7 but that's quibbling.

My Top 16 teams:

1). Texas
2). UConn
3). South Carolina
4). UCLA
5). LSU
6). Michigan
7). Oklahoma
8). Maryland
9). TCU
10). Iowa State
11). Kentucky
12). Vanderbilt
13). Iowa
14). Nebraska
15). Texas Tech
16). USC

Yep, that all changes when conference play opens.....Dec 29 they host USC in Lincoln. I still can't believe this game isn't a sell out.

It isn't volleyball. 😁 And no JuJu. Sellouts are really, really rare.

I’ve gotta say this looks pretty good after yesterday’s bloodbath - but 6 SEC teams in the top ten is a bit hard to swallow

Ok, I wanted to honor the title of the thread "New Years Superlative..." vs. Christmas 16 😘

so with the Jan 1 games in the books
  1. UConn
  2. SC
  3. Texas
  4. UCLA
  5. Oklahoma
  6. Kentucky
  7. Michigan
  8. TCU
  9. Louisville
  10. Duke (Yes, I have Duke in my top 10 and NO, I am not pandering to @triaddukefan but if it does curry favor-can you blame me?)
  11. Ohio State
  12. Maryland
  13. Iowa State
  14. Iowa
  15. Ole Miss
  16. NC State
Apologies to UNC who has talent but not so great coaching. ND who need a front court and more depth. SoCal is lacking coaching, similar to UNC and then Tennessee who seem to forget that being somewhat efficient on putting the shots taken INTO the basket matters as their slash line shows how abysmal they are (413/297/662).

@triaddukefan is going to send you a case of Cheerwine when he reads that! 🤣
Nah..... @DefenseBB should get a full NC style BBQ dinner with biscuits, PLUS the Cheerwine. 😉

NGL, before clicking the link, I thought you wanted us to rank our favorite 16 BY members, LOL

(ducking, and now back to my coffee and crosswords)

I haven’t watched enough teams nationally regularly to make my own list, but happy to see some bone-yarders know ball putting the Pack in the top 16 despite still being unranked and not gathering many votes in the polls. I feel like State, UL, and Duke will be the cream of the crop in the ACC by years end, although maybe all in the 10-16 range nationally rather than top 5 type teams.

Holy crap! Yeah, Major oversight. Slot them in at #7 and drop everyone down a spot except keep NC State and remove Ole Miss as I do want to ponder to @LETTERL

While I wouldnt put Duke at 10..... the trend line is pointing up for us, and we are up to #25 in the NET, #25 in Massey, and #14 in Bart Torvik...

@triaddukefan is going to send you a open case of Cheerwine when he reads that! 🤣

FIxed it 24 in case.... imma take at least 3 cans for myself.

Maam, if I went into a BBQ restaurant and asked for a biscuit.... they would run me out of NC faster than a Supersonic Train traveling through the prairies of Western Canada 😨😨 The only bread I've ever seen in a BBQ restaurant is the white hamburger buns that use for the sandwiches. Maybe cornbread if they have Brunswick stew.
