Goodfellas versus The Godfather is an epic mob match up. Amazed that it is tied right now though. Godfather is an infinitely better movie.

Shawshank versus Rocky is a tough call both are good movies. Quoteability of Shawshank versus the start of movie franchise in Rocky. I'm leaning Rocky.

Pretty good brackets. First time I've looked at this. Will only say that Cool Hand Luke and Cuckoo's Nest are very underrated. Always surprising to me that Forrest Gump and It's a Wonderful Life have so many backers. But hey... That Shining v. Big Lebowski game in round 1 must have been a good one.

I'd rather sit down and watch Goodfellas any day over Godfather. Sound track alone makes it more fun. Still, Godfather is the better movie.

Five reasons why Rocky is better than Shawshank Redemption.

  • The film was shot in 28 days.
  • The single most expensive cost on the film was make-up.
  • The monologue which Rocky delivers after turning down Mickey's (Burgess Meredith) offer to manage him was completely improvised on-set by Sylvester Stallone.
  • Sylvester Stallone insisted that the scene where he admits his fears and doubts to Adrian the night before the fight be filmed, even though production was running far behind and the producers wanted to skip it. Stallone had only one take for the scene, despite the fact that he considered it to be the most important scene in the film.
  • The Rocky Steps scene.
As for Shawshank? Explain this to me. If Andy dug the tunnel behind the Rita Hayworth poster....who hung it back up perfectly when he left for the last time?

Vote for Rocky.

I feel the complete opposite way. Some of the soundtrack I find a bit grating now. Or maybe it’s just the use of “Layla” at the end. Probably blasphemy to some.

He didn’t tape the bottoms of his Raquel Welch poster, he just let gravity do its work.

Best quote from Rocky is when he's walking in the arena day before the fight, sees the promoter and tells the promoter they have his trunks on the mural drawn in reverse color pattern.

Promoters response was a great throw away line that Rocky isn't even part of the show.

It doesn't really matter, does it?

I know you said not to pick 2 from the same matchup but I did anyway.
Bob you rabble rouser you.

Robertelamin

Bob, I heard your favorite movie ever is Problem Child, that true?

Great movie series. Better than Shawshank at least. Mano’s top 64 would be full of obscure anime movies. Amirite @Mano?

Then why doesn't the bottom fly up when he throws the rock through it?

Does it have to? Seems like a fairly large poster. A rock flying through it would probably cause a minimal disturbance, the bigger issue is when the warden puts his arm through it why doesn’t it pull more inwards towards the hole.

Edit: on second thought, you would absolutely need some way to either weigh it down or tack it down to keep air pressure changes from making it obvious that there is a huge hole behind the poster. I’m going to go with Andy is obviously a very smart guy, and while it wasn’t explicitly revealed, he must’ve thought of something ingenious. Anybody read the book? King say anything on the matter? I really have no idea how the two differ.

any championship final that does not include Ford Fairlane vs. Talladega Nights is a sham. the koala bear was robbed of an Oscar.

I fear that people voting for Rocky are combining the best parts of Rocky I, II, and III.

The ice skating scene is enough to lose this matchup.

Yeah, Happy Gilmore did that scene way better.

In Stallone’s original Rocky script, the famous ice skating scene called for the ice rink to be humming with dozens of other skaters that Rocky and Adrian would glide through, but due to the film’s dwindling budget, the production was forced to film in a completely empty ice rink. What seemed a problem at the time turned out to be the makings for one of the most memorable and romantic scenes in the entire series.

Nooner bump. Hey Deep, when you’ve climbed a particularly large set of steps do you often bounce around as you raise your hands in triumph and jubilation?

Can the underdog tale take down another underdog tale?

Rocky wins. I challenge anyone to not have an immediate reaction simply to hearing the opening bits of Gonna Fly Now.

I love Rocky and I immediately get pumped hearing it, even in the Creed movies, but Shawshank is just a notch higher in my book.

Basically any movie in the top 4 could win and I wouldn't be upset.

I have. Many times. Between the ages 12 and 49.

You're kinda making the argument that Rocky has had an impact on American culture for 40+ years there. Tour buses still stop by the stairs so people can climb those steps and get that pic.

(The fact that Philly has a statue of a fictional boxer may be more of an indicator of Americana but that's a separate subject).

For the record, I've been known to do the Rocky two step and arms up just from getting out of bed in the morning.

I traveled to Philly a ton for business and any given day, at 5:30-6:00 in the morning you jog there and 10-25 people are on the stairs and raising their arms at the top. Any kind of weather. It's a Mecca.

No one is visiting the sewer pipe Andy crawled out of. VOTE FOR ROCKY.

Nah, I’m just poking fun at Deep for stumping so hard for Rocky.
