The Big Big East Blog UConn Preview

Where to start? Azzi will not be the point guard. Ash, while a very good three point shooter, is not “the designated deep threat”, that honor goes to Azzi. I do not think JuJu’s absence from the game last season is what allowed us to win, though to be fair, it obviously played a part. I doubt anyone but die hard USC fans are sitting around demanding an asterisk for that game in the history books. If that were the case, we could point to a few on our side as we struggled through the devastation that was the UConn roster from 2020-2024!

I’m not sure where, and by whom she sees the one loss coming from that she is predicting for UConn but that’s OK, we’ll just have to show her the error of her ways. We are always grateful for any acknowledgement of the excellence of our program and I fully expect this will not be the last of those acknowledgements as we follow the accomplishments of this incredible roster! Go Huskies! 😎

The blogger thinks we are going to lose one game? Crazy. I wonder why the writer didn't name the team that (on paper) will beat us.

Also, I had not heard that Ash is now in Grad School, after 3 years of college.

Ash is a junior, so grad school in 2 years. Is that even possible?? Esp as a student athlete

Not an impressive article on many fronts. I personally would disagree with two of the proposed starters. Most think Serah starts over Jana, and although it is far more debatable, I have Blanca instead of Ashlynn.

Regardless this blogger doesn't even seem to know Blanca is on the team, not even mentioning her for the bench. Apparently he believes Caroline, Ice, Morgan and Kellis are more likely to get playing time.

I believe UConn will lose at least one game before the new year. Maybe to Tennessee. I don't know what team it will be but, I just believe they will lose at least one game. There are teams on their schedule with comparable talent. Maybe not as many but all they need are eight total.

While we may indeed lose a game before the new year, I do not believe it will be to any team with “comparable talent”! I say this because I do not believe there are any teams out there with comparable talent.

Certainly not in terms of a roster to roster comparison. I realize you qualified your statement with eight but even so, I do not believe there is any team out there that has any number of players that are as good as what Geno can put on the floor this season.

Sure, injuries could change that, but assuming fully healthy respective rosters, I’m not seeing any team that can match (on paper) what we have on this roster. Obviously this does not mean we are unbeatable but if we do lose, I do not believe it will be because of talent but rather, will, desire, luck, and effort.

UConn needs to enter the season with the mindset that that could happen. It's real, danger lurks out there. I hope they don't read the BY and get swelled heads.

Tennessee will have a very good team this year, and I think they will be the biggest threat to us. BUT, remembering last year, it really left a bad taste in their mouths, so I don't think it will be them. (it better not be). USC on the road will be closer than we think it will be, so that will be an interesting game.

100% Ash will be the starter.

I would tell them to go get a "Banner" to put up just like their East coast cousins in 2019....

There is a lot of talent on the roster for sure. To me, the big question is how the team deals with the loss of a player who I believe is a generational player, as reinforced by her rookie year performance in the WNBA. Paige made everyone around her better, so there may be some bumps in the road.

Remember, the games are not played on paper. 😉

Good thing they’re not cause they could just go ahead and give us the trophy!🥱 At least playing live there’s always a chance of losing! JK I’m fully aware of just how difficult it would be to win every game. Still, I think this team has the tools to possibly do it if we can stay healthy and get a few good bounces. I suppose Tennessee is the game that concerns me the most.

If the team plays like the majority thinks it will, they won't need the few good bounces. Now, staying healthy is something else altogether. They definitely have all the tools. I believe playing at home will give them the edge over Tennessee. But, for some reason I believe they will lose at least one game. I am not usually right but, I am never wrong. 😉

Bah, you could very well be right. UConn needs to approach each game as a trap game. I'm sure that Geno will drill this into them. He's not the GOAT for nothing.

A team that is thinking about an undefeated season in Oct, is not focused on the present and to go undefeated a team needs focus. Any golfer will attest that a great front nine that has you dreaming of the course record often leads to tears in the lounge after 18.
