Unlike the NYT, there's no way to gift articles from The Athletic. Boo.

Ranking 134 college football teams entering 2024, from Ohio State to Kennesaw State

We ended at #120 last year and that's where we'll start. I was on the road when GT beat FSU, so I'm thinking we'll see a lot of "upsets" this year. If there are any "friends" we should track, just let me know. :D

I just saw a listing the 25 worse football programs in the country and UCONN was not a part of it, however seven of the teams on the UCONN schedule are. D 1 only, seems like UCONN and UMASS have not played major college football long enough to be on this list.

This doesn't make any sense..

I can't see your list but for sure there are programs on it that have been FBS for not as long as us. There have been at least 20+ FBS additions since we upgraded.

Secondly, we're not on the list because we aren't one of the 25 worst.

Well there's this article that came out today:
College football rankings: Bottom 25 powerhouse Kent State closing in on historic feat
And sure enough, it lists UAB, Temple, FAU, Georgia State, and UMass. From the Px class there are Stanford, Purdue, and FSU. Only teams with 3 wins or less are listed...really not surprising that we wouldn't be on this list (but you may be referring to another article).

Yeah UCONN is not bottom 25 this year but I thought UMASS would be. The article was about the bottom 25 and I would have bet my house UMASS would have been this year.

Yesterday's results. Oregon remains the only unbeaten after Army and Indiana lose. These rankings are from last week and won't be updated until tomorrow.

Going into this season I thought our ceiling would be 9-3 (with Wake being a win) and floor being 6-6. Have so far overachieved with one game to go. Though I’ll say I’m still scratching my head about how bad we lost to Maryland.

Let’s beat UMass and hopefully get a good bowl.

It’s a fair ranking IMO. Until we can beat a team in the next tier, we’ve hit a ceiling. But, it’s nice to be out of the cellar and in the land of competitive.

I disagree. You lose by one score on the road to #30, you are a higher than 71. We should have moved up this week.

GM sportsfans. Here are the latest rankings from The Athletic. UConn moves down 1, but stays in the top half of the group for nine consecutive weeks, top 5 in seven weeks. None of our opponents are in the top +/- movers. Oregon remains standing as the only undefeated, with #44 Washington (6-5) remaining in the regular season.

According to their latest projections, here are the 1st two rounds of CFP, with Clemson, Arizona State, Tulane, BYU, and Colorado on the bubble.

8 Notre Dame / 9 Indiana gets 1 Oregon
5 Ohio State / 12 Boise State gets 4 Iowa State
7 Texas / 10 SMU gets 2 Georgia
6 Penn State / 11 Tennessee gets 3 Miami

Have a happy Thanksgiving week. For those of you in New England, stay safe!

not even close.

plus the whining about the schedule really needs to take a break. I mean really, tell me how good Pitt will be in 2028. Games get scheduled 3-6 years in advance. Sometimes more. Rice went to a bowl game last 2 years. UAB did in 2022. Buffalo is 7-4. When these games were scheduled I’m not sure anyone expected either Rice or UAB to be this bad. It isn’t like AD Dave and Mora sat down and said let’s schedule these guys because they will be bad in 2024! As a G4 independent we need to schedule teams that have openings and we need to avoid over scheduling. And in the portal era, there is likely to be greater fluctuation year to year, since there is no guarantee that a G5 team especially will keep young stars. All you can do is play the teams on your schedule and try to beat them.

They could have scheduled a bye game this year with free sneakers...we might have been favored.

On a somewhat related note, if anyone wants a 30 day guest pass to The A, just send me a PM.

Huh? Folks are noting that the teams we’ve beaten aren’t good. You’re making up implicit complaints that folks are blaming the AD for that as if he should be better at predicting how good or bad teams will be years in the future.

Talk about a straw man.

No. I’m saying we played who was on the schedule and we beat 7 of them. There is no way to predict accurately who will be good and bad 3 or 4 years in advance. So far we have beaten the teams we should have. There are no asterisks in the record books saying well, those teams aren’t that good. It is and was a good season.

We are 7-3. But that doesn’t mean what it means in a professional league, or even in a NCAA conference. It’s our record, but it tells you very little as a football independent unless you — wait for it — no who we played and who we beat.

there's plenty of ways to give those asterisks. Are you telling me that Boise State's 10-1 and Ohio State's 10-1 is the same?

Probably scheduled a bunch of these games when we scrambling to build an Indy schedule.

You can either still be in the AAC or you can have this schedule. I like the idea of scheduling for success and building.
