Really? Seems low to me.
It's all relative. If CSU were in a P5 conference, then yes I would 1.5 million dollars low. If you're not in a P5 conference, and can't afford 1.5 million dollars, then I would consider 1.5 million dollars steep for a coach.

Jeff Scott just signed at USF for $1.8 first year. Fickell is making $2.3.

I think $1.5 is on the low end. If UConn hires anyone other than Edsall, they are probably paying more than $1.5.

CSU = World Class is like when we claim UConn = Public Ivy. It's absurd but then again it's a press release so who cares.

You are listing base salaries, but you have to include bonus potential. Fickell could make $3 mill at Cincy, but probably will get ~$2.7 mill.

Please show us where Fickell will make $2.7. He won't top $2.5. Not even close to $3.

According to USA Today prior to any bowl bonuses he's earned the following this year:
  • $75,000: Sixth win, eligible for non-CFP bowl game
  • $10,000: Eighth regular-season win
  • $20,000: Ninth regular-season win
  • $30,000: 10th regular-season win
  • $50,000: Clinched at least share of the best regular-season record in the American Athletic Conference
If the base is 2.3M. He's at 2.485M so far (as of 12/2)

According to Newsday the following bonuses are still possible:
$40,000 for 11th win
$50,000 for appearing in top 25
$25,000 for APR above 965

Assuming they beat BC in Birmingham, he'd add another $90k, with the rest dependent on the APR score

I didn't bother getting into bonuses because my point was made just using the base. The comment was that $1.5mm was a lot of money for a G5 school...I disagreed and provided data points to make my point.

Also...UConn fans need to be reminded that RE is here on a discount. The next UConn coach is going to be paid at least $1.5mm base.

I think the next HC should be about 1.75 m. If we want to get someone who will be here for the long term, it needs to be at least that. Connecticut isn't a cheap place, so you have to pay (especially if you recruit someone from the south) more.
