So UConn, already ahead by 42, lets the shot clock run out instead of running a play. With about 5 seconds left, instead of returning the favor, Villanova takes and makes a 3-pointer. Not the classiest decision, but who really cares?
Well...I had happened to see the betting MOV on ESPN prior to the game. It was 40.5! So for everyone who made a bet on the MOV (and there are people who bet on everything), that last basket made winners out of losers and losers out of winners!

One player made this shot... It was a mistake. I don't blame VILLANOVA.
None of us are, in my view, "winners" or "losers'. We are loyal UCONN
fans first and foremost. I don't think you were discussing the BONEYARD's
own "MOV" and "exact score" contest. I consider that "just for fun".

The ESPN MOV was actually 30.5 & the basket did not affect the spread.
But the over/under was 138.5. That basket pushed the final total from 138 to 141. So the under bettors lost & the over bettors were rescued by that shot.

.-.
I was irritated, but told I should let it go.
It happens. I don't remember who scored, but if it was a bench player, I can see how they would want to go in and compete rather than just dribble out the ball.

I had texted my son a 42 MOV just before the start of the game :(

I wondered about that.

It was a starter whose team got smoked by the UConn bench in Q4 so, frustration. As I said in the game thread, she was probably thrilled to finally find herself open. The shot is a nothingburger

Really? Joens had not scored all game. That was her only made basket (1 for 6) and it will possibly mitigate some of the negative feelings she would have carried after going 0 for 5. At the end of it all this is a game played by kids. Let them be kids and have a good moment.

Interesting, I was sitting at that end of the court.
When the inbound pass went to the player, their coach Denise, pointed to that corner for the play to go. She wanted her player to take that shot. personally I thought that was in poor taste and that their coach was better then that. She had her reasons but didn’t look good.

Never ceases to amaze me what ruffles feathers here. On the other hand, it annoyed me that UConn stopped playing the game at that point. How 'bout both teams playing the game 'till the final buzzer. Don't ever remember playing the game as a kid that we dribbled out the end of the game. If we could tack on a couple more points, why not? We were competing, trying to hammer our opponents. Never dawned on us that somehow that was poor sportsmanship.

If she didn't break an official rule, I don't care. I definitely don't care seeing it was a blowout. Seems more instinctive to shoot than to dribble and do nothing. I always notice when a team is trying to dribble out the game and the defender is seriously trying to steal the ball. Just give it to them if they want it that bad. 🤣

It seems that Coach Dillon seized an opportunity to teach the Huskies a lesson not to dribble out earlier than when 30 seconds is left on the game clock unless they don't mind giving up the points.
Kudos to her as a coach for teaching her team to not quit playing until the final buzzer.

Do you think these two shots were a bad look for Geno and UCONN?

It's pretty typical when there is a sizable lead.

At the end of the Tennessee game, UConn had the ball with about 45 seconds left. I thought Geno very clearly gave the shot clock violation signal. I thought he was telling KK to take the violation, but a few seconds later Sarah scores a bucket. Any ideas?

I’ve read that about 50% of basketball fans are interested in betting on basketball and that it is one of Gen Z’s favorite activities.
Well…then they should know that they are taking a risk and are not in control. When they start thinking that they are…they got a problem. 😆
