UCONN moving on to another journey, but to what end. How can anybody compare to the concise scrutiny show at the half by Kara and Gary explaining the ins and outs of the game. and the after game highlights and interviews and Geno's postgame comments. How about the superior talents of Meghan & alan calling the game. this will all be missed. My guess is there will be very little analysis after the game so they can get to the next game following UCONN. Not looking forward to an announcing team that is ambivalent to UCONN overall. I may be wrong, but i sincerely doubt it.

You almost wonder could UConn WBB ever have "bought out" of the BE tv deal? Of course that would be impossible since the tv rights are held by the BE Conference which covers the men as well. But deals are made and deals are broken. But why would UConn want to do that? For one, there is little doubt that without UConn the deal could never have been done. Does UConn get premium return from the BE?

SNY only covered UConn WBB and no other teams. They paid the BE for those rights to carry the games. How exactly did UConn fit into that? Questions. Answers?

Not sure they paid the BE. I thought, and I’ve been wrong too many times to count, that UConn has Tier 3 rights to itself. The tier 1-2 rights were the league’s, but tier 3 was up to individual teams. No one team in country had the same tier 3 that we did, and I’m pretty sure SNY made money on us from what I have seen from ratings in the largest media market in the US.

Husky nation has been blessed twice in coverage. CPTV gambled doubly bigly, bringing women’s sports & specials to staid PBS, with monster ratings building an appetite for women’s basketball. SNY brought sportscasting experience, budget, and polished packages to showcase our teams and groom several sidelines reporters for bigger careers. I was needlessly apprehensive of the move to SNY, but am concerned about the potential lack of coordinated coverage of the UConn stories in the new deal.

Someone posted on this forum yesterday that MLB was purchasing SNY. If true, could that be the reason why SNY is no longer in the picture????
BTW The only news I have seen about this is that SNY streaming is now available on the MLB app.

Oldtimers might remember (probably pre-SNY) when the pre-game festivities included a PA announced trivia question. The answer always was "Meghan Pattyson". 10,000 people in Gampel would shout out that answer. Funny at first, but after a bunch of games it got old.

I was thinking we didn’t have a choice in the negotiations. If the smaller schools get actual money for T3, instead of nothing, I’m sure they’ll go for it. No other wbb team has what we do.

The best thing about SNY was how their announcers focused on the game itself, attentively following and calling the action on the court. Unlike the other network people who seem to get bored by the game and go off on some story-telling binge while the game rolls on, beyond their attention span. And although they were pro-UConn, they always were fair and respectful about the opponents.

I'm thinking they'll be putting some games on Peacock to mess us up. First 5 games of the men's Big East Tournament are on Peacock.
I'm inclined to think so too, at least eventually. I do remember some mention that UConn WBB would not be on Peacock in the original media announcement. So, for next year at least, I think will be on either Fox, NBC or TNT or TBS.

For what it's worth, it is useful to note, as our friend from South Carolina occasionally illustrates, that Connecticut women's basketball ratings are fairly typically higher than many men's teams ratings. Assuming that that is correct, and I believe it is, then there is some logic to putting it on the higher profile channels as that will maximize viewership.

I believe that UConn WBB will be the most televised team in the Big East with all twenty of their conference games being televised. I also believe that most of their out of conference games, if not all will also be televised. You have FOX, FS1, FS2, NBC, CBSSports wanting to get into the action on UConn and ABC/ESPN for non conference road games that have the conference affiliated contracts.

This season multiple BE WBB games not involving UConn have been televised by FS1 and FS2, I believe mostly games on Sunday.
This Sunday, FS1 is televising not only the UConn vs Marquette game but also the Creighton vs Villanova game.
No reason why they won't continue this next season and hopefully add the UConn weeknight conference games.
It’s all about the ratings and advertising $$$$.

The UConn SNY partnership was a one of a kind. I don't think it will ever be duplicated by any NCAAW program. I wonder what the partnership meant in terms of dollars and cents for SNY and for UConn. I'd guess SNY would get more advertisement monies with UConn then they'll get without them. As far as the women's basketball team the partnership must of had some financial plus to the contract for UConn. I'm sure the partnership had unmeasurable effect on recruiting for the women's program. UConn s a big fish in a bigger pond moving forward.

If I recall correctly, having media rights to UConn WBB was a huge get for SNY. They are definitely losing out here.

Clear as mud.
My guess is that us fans will not know what games will be available for viewing, and by who (or is it "whom") much before next year's schedule is formally announced.
My hope is that FS1 and FS2 pick up the majority of our weeknight conference games.

Actually, there was good information there. They're obviously isn't certainty as to channels, dates and times because the schedule for next year hasn't been made yet.

This was the big take away, however:

But do not expect any of the Huskies’ games to appear on Peacock. Commissioner Val Ackerman mentioned in a column produced by Mike Anthony last year that all Connecticut games will be on linear television.

I've mentioned this a few times in prior threads, but it is good to have a direct cite to it. Next year Connecticut games will be on one of Fox, FS1, FS2, TNT, or TBS. While that's not quite as clear as just going to SNY, it does mean that for the most part games will be on peoples regular television providers in there won't be any need to subscribe to Internet providers.

Which I posted in the post you replied to. And what makes the article "muddy" (IMO).

Shrug. We have differing expectations of the amount of clarity that is possible at this point in time. I think we can take some comfort in the fact that the games will be easy to get to and won't require a separate subscription to an Internet service. As to which channel gains will be on, that's typical question that is equally true for any men's team in the big east as it is for the women's team. When next year schedule is announced, will know which stations the games will be on.

(Although it's not going to be relevant for Connecticut women's basketball next year, I have watched the men's games on Peacock and it is a good quality broadcast with talented on air personnel.)
