For you old timers. December 28, 1985, UConn played Northeastern and Calhoun in the finals of the Connecticut Mutual Classic at the Hartford Civic Center. Northeastern blew UConn out 90-73 playing an uptempo style that was fun to watch. That was his audition for the UConn job and he was hired on May 14, 1986.
Unfortunately I remember that game. It was about a decade after the team that had Tony Hansen and Jon Thomas and lost to Rutgers after the great comeback against Hofstra. I thought we would become more of a force in New England but it never happened. Tony Tallies Two if I remember the headline correctly. A few years later we got Corny to commit, he was being recruited by some big name schools. I thought with him we would start to become more but it did not happen until JC took over.

And don't forget Chris Smith, who JC credits with being his first major recruit. He still is Uconn's All-time leading scorer. Who can forget the 1990 run that team had.
Talked to Chris at the reception Monday. Great guy. Legacy Husky.
