Thank goodness the next game is in Hartford

Gampel by far is the better venue. The XL is 45 minutes closer for me, but I would rather drive the xtra 45 min., becuase the atmosphere is so much better at Gampel. Gampel rocks for big games. I'm not a student, but all games should be played at Gampel while school is in session. Even, Shabazz this year, was quoted in the Courant, as saying "playing at XL sucks, we much rather play at Gampel"

It took about a half-hour for UConn to score against SMU, so yeah, let's blame the crowd for being flat.

Talking about how great things were 25 years ago. Another thread hijacked by PC fans?

Has anyone ever heard a UConn player say he prefers XL over Gampel? I do not think it has ever happened. The notion that the team will benefit Saturday against Cincy because the game is in Hartford is ridiculuous.

The back to back wins against Georgetown and Cuse in 89-90 that signaled the changing of Big East power were in Hartford on Sat at 12PM. I was at both. The electricity was unbelievable.

Those were unbelievable games and HCC crowds. But the Cuse game was a Big Monday ESPN 7PM game and the G-Town game was the following Sat. night during a snow/sleet/ice storm.

Guys "n" gals, save the energy used here bashing each other and our venues for the game! We have a #11 ranked foe in our house along with them being in our conference. This along with a Bobby D pre-game meet & greet which will eliminate all energy vampires!
Don't be knock'n, just come on in and get the house rock'n!

I actually think one of the loudest crowds we had was at XL when we played Carolina and went on a second half run. I thought the roof would cave in. We lost but for a few minutes it was so loud you could hardly see.

Sorry at my age I should know better than to depend on my memory . I would have bet they were Saturday afternoon games.
I had group of 3 or 4 buddies that I regularly went to games with back then.
On the Saturday games we would have a huge breakfast at a diner off of Rte 84. Those were great days when our fondest dream was a FF. One thing I would bet on was one of my Buddies, a 6ft 6inch string bean would have 4 eggs over easy,a double order of toast ,double order of bacon ,coffee and a large OJ. Never gained a lb.
Night games we would eat downtown or the old steak house in the arena. What was the name.of that place?
