The team needs a lift, what better way to get it than from another good crowd in XL Center like the one that came for Memphis. Last thing they need is the uninspired bunch that showed for the SMU game. I know Gampel has it's moments, but those moments come mainly during primetime, national games. For a meat and potatoes conference game late in the year, Hartford is the place to be. It's been proven year-in and year-out.

Plus this was exam week so the students will probably be too tired to attend. Good scheduling by Warde IMO.

Last time the Seniors are at XL. Big game, will have a Big loud crowd, if they give them something to cheer about.

Is this a joke?

You tell me. Compare and contrast the last two home games. Which crowd was better? Similar competition, the GP game had the better time slot.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about this premise. The last game at the XL was a high-scoring, back-and-forth game that ended with overtime heroics from Boatright and Napier. Contrast that to Sunday's game at Gampel, which may have been the worst home performance in Ollie's tenure, and I don't think it's really a fair comparison.

As somebody who has been to both venues for big games, Gampel is the better venue if all else is even. Doesn't really matter, though. Cincinnati comes to Hartford this weekend and it should be a great environment. See you there.

Because looking at one game in each venue is the way to provide an accurate overall comparison.

No need to mention any facts about the two actual games either.............

Each game was on a weekend against similar conference competition within 8 days of each other. The XL game was in the worse time slot for crowd participation, historically speaking. The XL crowd was better from the get-go, before " facts about the two actual games" (whatever that means) was established. It's as close to an apples-to-apples comparison as you are going to get. That these facts don't fit the incorrect narrative that many here like to repeat doesn't make it invalid. I think it just reveals some closemindedness.

Fact about the actual two games mean actually looking at the games itself, not the time slot. One was a cluster F from the start that made it impossible for the crowd to get into, while one was a thrilling up and down game from the get go that went to OT. No those do not matter at all.

How about one was on a Saturday enabling people to drink a little heavier before while one was on a Sunday where people work the next day.

You're just making excuses now. Tell the truth, if this Cincy game was at GP at the same time do you really think there would be a better crowd than will in Hartford on Saturday? I don't think so, hence my OP.

I do think it would be, best game I ever went to was the 2006 Nova game, which was at GP and I believe was a Saturday nooner.

You are the biggest supporter or the XL center on this board, I know I, or anyone else, will not change your opinion, but you cannot judge the two venues off one game each.

Did the team give them anything to get excited about against smu?

Christ the crowd wasn't that bad for the SMU game all things considered.

Also you know what the fans don't do? Play. So I for one hope the damn TEAM shows up first and foremost. Let's worry about the crowd once that's been settled.

Sure, go ahead and take the game vs. SMU as the ONLY comparison, that's fair. I'm not sure if you were at the Florida game (at Gampel) earlier this year, but it was a much better environment than any game I've been to this year. Even moreso than Memphis. Or, if you want to compare late season conference games. Take Georgetown at Gampel last year for example. That was a similar game style as the one vs. Memphis and, being at both, the crowd at the Georgetown game was 10 times louder and more excited than they were vs. Memphis at XL.

What about Louisville at Gampel this year? Much better environment than any game at XL this year, and that was a loss.

The back to back wins against Georgetown and Cuse in 89-90 that signaled the changing of Big East power were in Hartford on Sat at 12PM. I was at both. The electricity was unbelievable.

The 2011 Big East championship game atmosphere was way better than our last game at Gampel. Conclusion, Gampel sucks! ;)

Context has never been a strong suit on this board...

The Memphis game was a high scoring, up and down shoot out with great guard play on both sides which was neck and neck throughout. Very easy for the crowd to get excited.

The SMU game was the UConn's version of the walking dead. Terrible effort, energy, and play from the opening tip to the final buzzer. There was virtually nothing to be excited about in that game (other than the halftime presentation).

But hey, don't let context get in your way...

I addressed that. The XL crowd was better from the get-go, before the games took shape.

I addressed that, too. Gampel crowds are always ready for prime-time. Sunday afternoon...meh. The XL crowd was great for a Saturday nooner and look we have a Saturday nooner coming up. That's why I say thank goodness the game is in Hartford.

I admit, I'm trying to get you Hartford-haters to realize that two venues are a feature, not a bug. It's part of what built the program. Take the games out of Hartford and I don't think you guys will realize what we would lose.

I disagree that the fans would have been any different if the game was in XL.

I was at the Memphis game. There were a lot of empty seats when the game began (can't blame the fans, it was a noon start with an impending snow storm...and getting into XL was such a nightmare). Also, with the late arriving crowd the energy wasn't really that high until the second half. That's when the crowd really came alive. Not sure about your "get-go, before the game took shape" allegation.

UConn didn't score their first points in the SMU game until after the first TV timeout. That's absurd and that alone killed the crowd. And UConn also never had a lead at any point during the game. Oh yeah, and they played awful. The crowd was buzzing before the tip with the 99 team in the house and a good opponent on the floor, but UConn never gave them a single reason to keep that energy up. Fans can only do so much when the team is laying an egg.

I know it's like a running joke that we have to have these threads every season, but whoever creates these threads shows themselves to be an absolute moron by bringing it up time and time again.

-All games won't be at Gampel
-Bjg crowds are great at both venues
-Gampel is consistently better because of thr students and the team prefers Gampel
- early season games at XL suck. you can literally hear the XL center area hum on tv.

Great thing abot the XL, is a packed Rockinghose Saloon at 11AM with $2 cans of beer. That always helps get the crowd "ready". ;)
