well, i think it did. but things changed. NIL and the portal became prevalent. Players like Lucy Olsen, Morrow, Emma Ronsiek, Dalce, Karlen all started to flee the conference and were replaced by lesser players. That was a change we couldn't predict when we left the AAC.
 
UConn's perimeter defense was porous and beaten time and again.

UConn is a poor rebounding team which is evident to anyone watching this year, and Tenn scored repeatedly off second chances.

UConn has no inside game in the halfcourt. Coupled with the inability to get offensive boards, that means UConn is reduced to having to make jump shots and threes for the vast majority of its scoring.

UConn once again went away from Sarah Strong when nobody else was providing anything offensively.

We don't seem to have an interior inbounds play, just a long pass into the middle of the court. Our offense starts over, even when we have the ball inside. Why? Are our bigs being taught to accept an inbounds pass?

We also seemed to have some poor pass decisions at critical times like at the end of the first half. Tentative????

UConn was exposed tonight (again). The upper classmen were not particularly good tonight. Azzi and Paige under performed and the team suffered because of it. They need to get better and I think they will, but there isn't a NC in this teams future.
 
Despite some positives -- the play of Aubrey, KK, and Sarah, and the handling of the press, this was a disappointing loss -- not only because of the rivalry, but because it's a game that the Huskies could have and should have won. The points left on the table due to missed layups alone would have provided a nice margin of victory.

Something that someone observed in the chat was striking; I can't remember it word for word, but it was a question of How can everyone on the team go cold all at once? It's a good question. Does the answer have to do with a lack of leadership? -- A lack of someone providing that inspiration and motivation to the others to perform at their best? -- A lack of someone providing the example of performing at a high level for others to follow? This team has too much talent for everyone to go cold at once. But this game is not the first time it's happened.

I've always had trust in Geno, and I think it's a fixable issue. But unless the issue is addressed and fixed, this team unfortunately won't be winning the final game of the year.

This came down to defense. Spearman specifically just had a day and exploited UConn inside and on the switches. Some costly mistakes everywhere down the stretch. Sarah with that bad pass and foul to give Tennessee more clock to waste, the timeout call right when Bueckers was about to go into superhero mode after nailing a superb 3, missed shots and lay-ups and the lack of post play. Optimistically, rather mistakes and losses now than later, UConn will learn and grow from this.

I don't think "we'll learn from this" applies. That is something that can be said maybe in December when trying out lineups but those plus a lot of other "things' should have been worked out by now.

Our best player tonight was KK, she is the only player in my mind that over-performed what I expected. Primarily what she brought offensively, as her defense is always elite. She was easily the most aggressive player we had in terms of driving the lane and getting to the basket.

KK was really fun to watch all game. Sarah got buckets but had a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes including that last foul. Everyone had their moments but Azzi/Paige/Chen/Ashlynn shot 11-37 and it's really hard to win like that

We lost the game in just a few minutes in the third quarter when we were scared and Tennessee took advantage to go up nearly double digits. Couldn't climb all the way back after that

Win against South Carolina and there are no issues. But we've really slowed down against good teams..let's crush Providence and St Johns to build some momentum going into next weekend. Let's go Huskies

With regards to the 17 offensive boards...that was only 4 more than the 13 "O" Boards that UConn pulled down. And, Tennessee only had 2 more 2nd chance points than we did: Tenn: 12 UConn: 10

I think we are not as athletic as some of the top teams. We get tired and sped up and miss shots. The answer ti this is to play more players throughout the game. Geno consistently wears out his 7 or so players in big games. Surely, there is someone he can put in the game to relieve some of his players. Every year, it's the same thing. It's getting old.....
 
I tried to pull the team along ..those of you who remember my posts from previous seasons understand...

My go to beverage during UCONN WBB games has been Mike's Hard Lemonade Mango flavor. When the team struggles I drink another Mike's and it tends to help ..I can't explain the Mojo...bit normally it works! Some games are 1 Mike's kind of games, others it's 1 per quarter... Tonight was a 6 Mike's game... It worked for stretches, but couldn't put the team over the top .. now I am buzzed... fortunately I don't have to drive home.

Looking for a great bounce back and great end of the season!!

UConn is probably the best "team" that can be beat by a more individually talented and more physical team. UConn is offensively as talented as anyone, but UConn needs more defensive stoppers, like AG. Anyway, you only need to be good enough when it matters and this does not matter in the grand scheme of things. This was a good win for Tennessee, (congrats to them) although I would describe it as a false positive. UConn gave it away. Tennessee took it. Hope that all the players hold their head up and continue to work hard. UConn fans love them and support them no matter the outcome and disappointment.

Geno played 9 players tonight, 8 of which played double digit minutes. This loss had nothing to do with getting tired. As for getting sped up, you’re on the right track.

Absolutely, but all in all, it wasn't an overall bad game for her. Once you get by the 5 for 14 on the fgs and the 2 for 6 from three...she played a pretty good game...bringing the ball up and breaking the vaulted Tennessee press.

Just for comparison purposes, over her last 3 games, Juju Watkins is shooting 19/57 and 3/19 from the arc.

Their coach subbed 5 for 5 at one point. Our coach would never do that.

"Going cold" suggests that the team shot below average. If you limit the sample to the 6 best opponents, this was not below average.
