I go by a few things. First coach Caldwell has winning career record. Year one went from not ranked to sweet 16. The roster is think is better for this style. I like her answer here.

97 points versus bad teams but in the SEC more like 67. Sweet 16 is again possible… I will say this is new version of the old ASU system and a shout out to an old Huskie Ekmark.

Tennessee has a good returning core. So the style of play is already there. Plus a good transfer and high school class. I think this team will look different. More of a fit for this style. Going by her track record. I think Caldwell will make some needed changes. I see the 97ppg as very possible. I think this team will be better. BTW you can tell by the players this staff has brought in. They are not playing around.

How silly to omit any mention of Dalce or Fulwiley, who was named tournament MVP.

“For her performance on Sunday and throughout the weekend, Fulwiley was named the women’s MVP of the tournament.”

8 3-point shots!? Wow!! I am getting Hank Gathers, Jeff Fryer, and Bo Kimble flashbacks. If she can stroke shots like that in the system that Coach Caldwell runs. We will have those high scoring games like Bo, Jeff, and Hank use to put up for LMU.

That was the style. That i thought would be most like the style Caldwell runs.

Definitely in the works and it is a beautiful style of play. I am wishing the Lady Vols and Coach Caldwell all the best, until they play us of course :);)
Yes i love the style. I think you will see a difference. With the players she brings in. That fit this style better.. I think that will be seen this upcoming season.

I agree they'll be better: what worked against their system in the past year was their abysmal 3pt shooting. If they can combine the pressure and turnovers with a decent (35+%) 3pt percentage, they'll be dangerous to any team.

I think the press will be more effective this year. I can't wait to see how the twins do.

Yeah. I expect some gains, which is scary, with the style of play this season. If the Lady Vol players are working on their games this off-season, I can see y'all making things very uncomfortable for the whole SEC, especially if other teams aren't improving and just resting on their laurels.

I know one team who isn’t resting on their laurels.

This team will be interesting but ignoring how bad a shooting team they are is a drastic concern. You lost all your best 3 point shooters and adding a 5'5" freshman is not going to overcome that. The SEC stats-points per game, shooting percentages, rebounds all showed the gaps in Caldwell's system (they were 9-9). Adding Barker and Wolfenbarger definitely helps Spearman with the size the roster was lacking. I actually think the addition of 6'1" Deniya Prawl will help TN more than Mya Pauldo will. Size matters, especially in the SEC and in NCAAT play. Robertson struggled mightily on her efficiency going from the mid-major A10 Conference to SMU in the ACC last year, she will absolutely struggle against better and bigger teams in the SEC this coming year. Overall, I do think this team can return to the Sweet 16 and maybe even the Elite Eight given the right bracket. Within the SEC, they are still behind SC, Texas, Oklahoma and LSU and may be fighting it out with Ole Miss and Vandy for 5th.

The other concern with these portal additions is the Tennessee style of play is prone to fouling. Spearman and Cooper were already in the top 15 "worst players at fouling" coming back for 2025-26. Spearman committed a foul every 7.3 minutes, ranking 4th, Cooper committed a foul every 9 minutes for 14th on the list. Wolfenbarger commits a foul every 6 minutes and is the 2nd worst, Barker committed a foul every 7.7 minutes for 5th worst. Now add both Jersey and Janiah into the Tennessee system and "yikes".

For context, Del Rosario was #1 with a foul every 4.5 minutes on the floor. Shea will have her work cut out for her to coach this.

One thing I think will improve. Is the team speed. So the press and running to the rim should be better. We will see how the outside shooting is. Wynn also returns this year. I have heard for years. In the tournament time. That guard play is important. I think Tennessee has the guards this year.
