OT: EDD had 41 in a tough victory at Hofstra, a pretty good team. She does that in the NCAA's its trouble.

I just have a lot of trouble getting a handle on this U TENN team, the other day against KY, they were just terrif, full of energy and making great plays. ( yes KY is imploding, another story) Tonight, their feet are stuck in mud, will probably win, but so ugly.

Hofstra is now about 16-9 playing a CAA schedule. This game was at Hofstra. EDD will score as much as needed. I think UDel wins 2, maybe 3 in the NCAAs. I hope to see UDel in the CAA tourney.

I think the coaches can't get a handle on them either. Puzzling!

The announcers speak of Miss St'.s defensive prowess. Don't see it. Tenn. penetrates at will. either misses the chipee or throws it away.

EDD had 42 points, 14 boards, and 6 blocks. She already had the school career record and went over 2,000 points with her 42 tonight. She played all 40 mins tonight. But she shot only 13-15 from the line. :)

A whopping 22 points at the half. 14 turnovers and 11 buckets. Must-see TV!

UT finally made a few easy shots to go up 20-13 at the half. Hard to imagine them getting out of the 2nd round of the NCAA's if they play like this. Their own board really howls when they have a game like this which is not infrequent.

I think I miscounted UT's score, missed a field goal. By the way, the game, if you call it that is on ESPN3

i'm sure tennessee fans were wetting themselves with excitement over the smackdown of Kentucky, and rightfully so. however, the worst team in the SEC basically had the same 1st half against Kentucky that tennessee did, and ended up beating Kentucky. tennessee wins the SEC and probably the regular season cuz i'm betting kentucky loses again, but the SEC is just so so bad this year it's really a joke.

When people said atthe beginning of the year that the SEC was stronger this year I just didn't see it. Never saw TN doing better than the E8 and if they win the SEC that doesn't say much for the conference.

after a few losses some thought Tenn wouldn't win the SEC... now with the downward spiral of UK Tenn may win the SEC and everyone will yell how weak the SEC is.

damned if you do and damned if you dont :)

That's true but I was on that train back in the fall. I'm not just running for the platform now.

Epic meltdown by KY. Makes you wonder where the team that beat Duke and pushed ND went.

The clock struck midnight (on February 1), and they turned into a poop sandwich. :D

Maybe they're just pooped. Might be considered cheeky for saying this, but the top scorers seem to have a big plop of freshmen-sophomores (6of 8), and maybe as they reach the end of regular season they've run out of gas, bottomed out, and need to take a seat and rest up since they can no longer hit the backside of a barn. They need to get their rumps up and beat the cr*p out of Vandy at home next Monday.

the SEC will likely have 7-8 teams in tourney. not exactly the weakest conference in the world. most of the teams started a rebuilding process last year. they have greatly improved and will get better. that being said, the only team that could really make a long run is probably TN. IF and a big IF....if they keep the intensity. they are a very weird team for a fan to watch. when they are really on, they can beat anyone...and i mean anyone....but sometimes they just play lazy and let the game pass them by. i think we all will see a different mindset for the team when this senior class graduates. they are really sweet ladies but a little too nice at times (excluding my girl glory johnson of course) :)

Not sure I'd count the Wildcats out for good. Many teams do just kind of have meltdowns during a part of the season and then pull it back together for the NCAAs. KY has a bunch of impressive Ws and Ls this year, and when March comes, maybe they'll remember again how they played earlier and how they've taken 4 wins in the NCAAs the last two years and fought to the doorstep of the FF in 2010. As for UTenn, I don't think anybody can be shocked no matter which way they go, because we've kind of seen it all from them this year. And conceivably, they could carrying Pat's last campaign in the NCAAs, though the expectations are still that there will be more.

Having 8 in the Tournament does not mean that a conference is tough.

The SEC has often done best in the NCAAs when it has 5 to 6 dogs in the fight. The last time they had more than 6 was in 2009, when the conference teams ended up a combined 6-7, the only losing mark ever for them. Having a few strong top teams is almost always better than a pack of middling teams. The Big East's best mark percentage-wise was in 2000 when it had only 4 teams in the tourney.

i think there are a couple of issues, so to speak, on that. the BE should get 8 teams in - 50% of their league. for the SEC, i don't see florida getting in at this point as they are 16-10, 6-7 in the sec, and have games vs. Georgia, Mississippi, and Tenn left. should they lose to tenn and GA as expected, they'd be 17-12, 7-9 in the SEC. not good enough IMHO, but still 7 teams is good.

so it's great that they would be getting about 58% of their league in. the problem is that most of their teams are average and frankly, i doubt at this point their top team (Kentucky) could beat the big east's #5 team, Georgetown. so while they can crow about sheer numbers, the quality is not there. so i guess i'm saying i agree with you, Ice, but i don't think it's as cut and dry.

the SEC is #3 in RPI behind the big 12 and big east, but there is very little separation between #'s 2,3 and 4 (Big East, SEC, Pac 12 believe it or not). i think the reason people feel the SEC is weak is that their top teams, tennessee and kentucky, have fallen apart recently. let's be honest - a 57-41 win over a horrible Mississippi State team is a bad win. that would be like UCONN beating Providence or Cinci by only 16. and Kentucky losing to the worst team in the league is like ND losing to Pitt.
