the SEC is #3 in RPI behind the big 12 and big east, but there is very little separation between #'s 2,3 and 4 (Big East, SEC, Pac 12 believe it or not). i think t.

I dont care what the RPI says ..... the Pac 12 is garbage this year. I'd take the ACC head to head... and would put money on it.

Believe it or not, the ACC is 6th, behind the Big 10 also. i don't disagree that Duke, MD and Miami are all legit top 10 teams and there is strength at the top of the conference for sure. GA Tech is ranked and UVA isn't too bad either. frankly i think some of the RPI is a joke as one i looked at had TEnnessee at 4 and ND at 5. now THAT's ridiculous.

Sagarin has the ACC at 4th, a little behind the SEC, and the PAC is way way back in 6th. All the conferences except the PAC have at least two teams among the top 20. Sags is usually much more realistic than RPI, which deals in very broad and smeary brushstrokes and is famous for all of the howlingly off ratings differences for specific teams since its algorithms were developed long before anyone actually sat down to analyze what was important in a rating system.

But that's the RPI formula just regurgitated under an official Sagarin name through CBN. The historically best college basketball ratings are the Sagarin ELO\Chess-Predictor ratings, which have no connection with RPI. There it's B12\BEast\SEC\ACC\B10\PAC, but B12 is well ahead, the next three fairly close together, B10 a ways back of them, and the PAC is deep down. This is the order for Sags' Central Mean rating, the chief rating that gives weight to the conferences middle teams. In a second rating, the Simple Average, the PAC escapes the cellar ahead of the B10, likely because of Stanford's high rating, and the ACC is 3rd ahead of the SEC in Simple A.
