Tennessee 2025, part 2

I am unique on this board because I always liked Pat and what she did at not only UT but for the sport. Pat had loyalty from fans and boosters to a fault. She wasn't perfect of course but to them she could do no wrong. Holly tried to keep almost the same things in place but couldn't handle the job to the degree it was expected. At her firing that would have been the moment to go find a truly fantastic HC, but it was another "family" member who was an improvement on some fronts but not on others. I actually thought she'd get one more year but oh well.

Caldwell was a very high risk hire from the standpoint her experience is so limited for a SEC program, particularly one of UTs status. I can't see a program that was still consistently top 25 and top half of the SEC hiring someone with one year of D1 coaching experience who ended the year blown out in the first game of the NCAA tournament. She said all the right things and charmed the media and fans early on plus recruited better in one year than Harper did in five. Realistically though this team wasn't going to be on the level of UConn, SC, TX but on talent alone they should be better than A&M, Ole Miss, MSU, and top 6 SEC isn't unrealistic. Unless she gets the right players and changes some of her ways she won't last long, mainly because expectations are almost impossibly high.

I hope they right the ship, whether it's with Caldwell or not. UT is still a top 10 program in terms of name, fan support, ratings, and only UConn has a more impressive history.

They almost squandered a 19 point lead, letting Tennessee crawl back to within two points with about two minutes to go, and I thought Tennessee was going to finish them off but they didn't score another point, giving the Aggies the win.
I had to go look at the game cast and wow, TN didn't score in the last two minutes

Reposting my question from the weekly games thread:

what happened to Jerzey Wolfenbarger?

she was supposed to be pretty good I thought, and she's only getting 9 minutes per game

Given that anything that can move gets at least 6 minutes per game in that system, this is witness relocation program territory.

Good news for Tennessee:

The Massey probability of TAMU beating Tennessee was 8%

The probability of Tennessee beating Oklahoma is 37% almost 5 times as high!

She looks much worse than when she was at lsu and Arkansas

To be fair I never thought she was very good but you can’t even count on her for decent minutes this year

Actually….. I think Tennessee may win this game. I don’t think OK as good as their rankings. Besides… it would befitting for Tennessee to win anyway

The good thing for the Lady Vols going into these last three games of the SEC regular season is that all three teams are beatable. The bad thing is that those same three teams are also capable of beating the Lady Vols. I hope the Lady Vols get things figured out.

OU is a weird team. They capable of losing as much as winning to a lot of teams

I don’t see TN beating LSU in the pmac tbh. Frankly the way LSU runs it could be a long day for them if they keep the press on or get back in transition. That may be a 15-20 point loss.

Vandy at home. Sure TN talent wise could do it but if they can’t beat A&M at home and has been getting blown out in all these games hard to think they’ll get it done. It’s senior night so maybe that provides a spark

When you depend on a Freshman, ANY Freshman, you’re going to have highs and lows. I mean there have been games where the number of shot attempts might make you conclude that Beers is the freshman and Chavez is the upperclassmen. I think in a recent game Beers had FIVE shot attempts for the game. That’s coaching malpractice.

Very early on, I speculated that Tennessee’s “system” was not going to be successful. However, I thought it would result in occasional upsets, blowout wins of quad four teams and mostly close losses to good teams. If this team was truly recruited to play the way Coach Caldwell wants to play, and not just the best they could get with the money they had, then it’s an epic disaster. Athletes pick colleges for all kinds of reasons, but I can’t imagine signing up for this mess. This spring should be interesting.
I'm running out of reasons to defend Coach Kim, but this freshman class is her first recruiting class. For her system to work they need to make more of the 3pt shots she has them taking....so she'll be trying to recruit better shooters.

While I'm at it 😁 her hockey line substititions are exactly that. Her theory is that 10 players playing 2 minute shifts full speed will slowly run down a team with starters playing 30 minutes. She explains this to her players, and in her early season press conferences.

Caldwell by the way knows enough basketball to understand if her system is simply wrong for good ball handling, fit, athletic teams in the SEC. Assuming she gets year 3, she may yet come around to making some changes.

Always fun to watch all the smoke.

Yeah, these three remaining games for the Lady Vols could go either way. The wins, or losses, are there for the Lady Vols just depends on the Lady Vols mindset. Team or Individual.

Ouch. NGL, three teams in four years, and now this, is concerning.

Just from my observations of her over the years but I'm guessing she took out her distaste for that A&M loss on her own teammates. I love her passion but she crashes out in unhealthy ways when she gets frustrated.
