This could be bad. There are a number of options on what happened. Could be just a coincidence. But when players on others teams are making millions in NIL could be a few players on a team not making any money try to figure out a way to do it and then things come of the rails. Not saying I know anything, other than in my life which has exposed me in my line of work to corruption caused by greed, I tend not to believe the coincidence theory first. And on the same day Gobert gets T when he suggests using hand motions that an nba ref is on the take. Super Bowl in Vegas….our new economy on wagering is going to create an interesting ride for most sports. Those darn coincidences will start being more frequent.

Only a matter of time. People think NIL and the portal are dragging the sport down. Nothing compared to what gambling can do. Gambling sucks
Gambling is fine imo, it’s the whole ecosystem that’s sprouted up that sucks. Constant bombardment with ads, sports highlight shows inundated with “expert” picks, it’s making me into a prude about gambling.

The line movement that happened in that UAB game was insane. Vegas knows their stuff; that coupled with Temple playing horribly does not look good at all.

It has nothing to do with NIL.

All of these media companies partnering with gambling sites and targeting college-aged kids is going to bite everyone in the ass. Players are getting caught up in this regularly.

That is exactly what I said in my first post. It is about money it always is. Some people are making tons of it. Other people are not and trying to find a way to make it. NIL is probably minimizing the impact of the second paragraph in your post but what you say in that second paragraph is exactly what I said in my post but in fewer words and probably more clearly.

It's always possible at small schools whose players get minimal NIL. I always say, there are D1 schools, and there are D1 SCHOOLS.

It's probable at small schools and the biggest schools.

The constant advertising and proliferation of sports gambling is a disaster. Gus Johnson was telling people on a national broadcast to live bet on player stats.

100% agree. Not a question of if there'll be a major betting scandal, it's when and who'll be involved.

Thanks to the cartel for all the great changes in college athletics and greed. The P2 think they’re invincible. It will all crumble

I agree entirely. I no longer find the excitement that I used to by betting individual games. Haven’t done much of that lately. Sucks that UConn is 21-10 ATS this year! I much prefer fantasy/pick ‘em pools/future bets lately. Would like the ads and promos to go away.

SMU going to the ACC rubbing elbows with the tobacco road crowd. How crazy would it be if SMU just couldn't help itself and ended up with some scandal again. Or worse, it is somehow involved with Temple and UAB! SMU just lost to UAB 74-70. Oh Nellie!

Data science is going to make this kind of cheating nearly impossible to get away with. You’d have to be pretty stupid or desperate to try it. Any anomaly in the size or frequency of bets on a particular game, team or games called by a particular ref would be detected immediately. The gambling may bring cheaters but the gambling sites and casinos are very averse to losing so they’ll pretty aggressively kill any attempts to cheat. This issue was detected by a company whose sole purpose is to detect this sort of cheating, US Integrity.

True, it opens more doors to misconduct. But I don't think college kids move lines or have enough money to buy players

Then again, you're not precisely saying that they are.

I’m struggling to understand. It sounds like you’re implying that saying something in fewer words and more clearly isn’t a good thing.

I am implying that exact thing “probably more clearly” would give that away that @Fishy post did exactly that. I guess that’s why he is a premium poster. But I understand I am not at your intellectual level. Ivy League it’s amazing you’re not a Dook fan. Finding something I posted four days ago and trying to pick a fight. Here is a secret I know who is what on this board and if I said the sky was blue on a perfectly clear day you would find a way to throw your superior intellect around and spin it to a negative. Two years and all you have ever done is find ways to insult many of the posts I make. Put me on ignore and we can just stop the nonsense.

They don't call organized crime organized for nothing.
