This place just isn't the same.
I just can't understand how Temple, who wasn't good enough to belong in the Big East has apparently survived and at times thrived in the AAC, where UConn can't gain any ground whatsoever. Temple once again is bowl eligible.
They signed Isaiah Wright in 2012 and the rest is history
This.It hasn't whiffed on each coaching hire and recruiting cycle for the better part of a decade.

WORST facilities in modern football ... and by the way ... they aren't much better today. I have toured their facility east off Broad Street.
Have you toured the new facility west of Broad Street?
At schools like UConn and Temple, if you win, you will recruit better than if you lose. Heck, that’s true for almost all schools.
UConn had a lead on Temple, but lost it due to Temple hiring better coaches than UConn. It’s really that simple.
Thanks ESPN... who said any publicity is good?UConn has dug themselves into a massive hole because it has become the laughing stock of college football. Nobody remembers Baylor coming in and getting smacked. It’s the laughing stock of college football on a national level and I think that makes it even more difficult to recruit until the sentiment can change.

where's my emoji kit ...
No. I toured in 2015 late EAST of Broad. It was a good imitation of Crack neighborhood. And the Student Housing ... was prison looking.
So, you are enlightening me. It is not on my general visits to Phila. But, I will google and see. Nonetheless ... my point is Shankman, Burton ... it ain't the facilities that drew their recruiting quality up; it was a strategy and the right coaches out on the path.
Anyone have an idea of what the salary pool is for FB at UConn? If you can't get competent assistant coaches to recruit, UConn isn't going to succeed at the FBS Independent level. Temple is paying CO-DC Fran Brown (doesn't even call the plays) $450K. Just an example.
Admissions wouldn't admit him supposedly. It's a fair point. You'd like to think that a State U would be able to have a better football program than friggin Temple. Inexcusable.
Of course it doesn't help when Coach P doesn't give Matkevitch the time of day when the kid is in our back yard - and then he goes to Temple and is a beast for years and then plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Al Golden built the foundation of the program, but after Temple left (booted) the Big East and took a step down in competition. Temple went from playing 5 to 7 current P5 teams to 1 the year after Golden took over. The turnaround would not have been as quick if Temple had been in the Big East.
His first year, 2006, he went 1-11 and played 5 current P5 teams. In 2009, Temple's first winning season since 1990 when he went 9-4, he played 1 P5 team and lost to 1-AA Villanova.
Golden's record:
Against current P5 schools: 0-10
Against ranked opponents: 0-6
Against 1AA schools: 1-1
Addazio followed Golden. His first year in 2011, he went 9-5 against similar competition as Golden. In 2012, Temple rejoined the Big East/American and faced much harder competition with 6 current P5 schools and Temple ended up going 4-7. (He did beat UConn in 2OT 17-14.) Same thing happened to Rhule. He faced a tough schedule and went 2-10 his first year losing to a 1AA school. Then the Rhule turnaround started as he went 6-6 in year 2.
Turnarounds take time. I think UConn's roster has the most talent they have had under RE 2.0, but the inexperience at QB, unfortunately, pushed the turnaround back another year. If Pindell was still around this year, the perception of the turnaround would be different.
Also may have been a case as with a few other CT kids that Temple admitted and UCONN would not.Not defending PP, because he was the beginning of the end of UConn Football, but remember, Coach Calhoun didn't offer Ryan Gomes a scholarship. Recruiting is not a perfect science...
