Maybe Helms stands for Hellmans mayonnaise. They beat Aflred 36-13, what a game I tell ya, I think there were still using peach buckets as rims.

Would be cool to hear the stories of those games if Essex Ed still was here. Maybe zymurg has a few stories.

They won games in which their opponents scored 11 points. Napier has 11 in your average overtime session.

That Penn game was a real barn-burner. I remember when that one 5'8" guy hit the winning set-shot over the other 5'8" white guy. Nothin' but the bottom of the peach basket!

If you're going to post football scores on the basketball board, you could at least put an "OT:" in the thread title...:D

They really had Colgate's number that year. But if we're being honest, it was obviously the blowout of Alfred University to start the season that really started them on that magical ride.

The rules and strategy were different. No shot clock and if a player took anything other than a layup they got benched. There was also a jump ball after every made basket. Fast breaks were non existant and none of those old farts could dunk.

The player in the middle was academically ineligible for the first game against Penn.....but was reinstated 3 days later in time for the Buffalo game.

Well I guess this says it all.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mythical_national_championship

A mythical national championship (sometimes abbreviated MNC) is national championship recognition that is not explicitly competitive. This is often invoked in reference to American college football because the NCAA does not sponsor a playoff-style tournament or recognize official national champions for the Football Bowl Subdivision. The relevant recognition comes from various entities, including coach polls and media ballots, which have attempted to recognize their own national champions.

The guy on the right was the 6th man until he stole a bathrobe from Woolworths and when caught was immediately given the the starting PG spot!!!
I don't know what you just said, I can't take my eyes off that red bikini.
