She may be unattractive to UCONN but I'm willing to bet that Reimer will have plenty of schools wanting to take advantage of her skill set, even if it is just for one season.

UConn generally doesn't do transfers. Like Geno said when they brought Butler in, he rarely takes transfers. How many have there been I wonder in the last 30 years? I know a lot of players have transferred out, but how many have transferred in? Butler and Hunter are the two that I can think of.

There was that odd case with the Aussie or New Zealand girl from UW, then left to play net ball back home or something. That was really odd because she wasn't that good to begin with. Then there was the JUCO transfer from Central Arizona.

Reimer will have plenty of options. And again, I doubt she wants to play for a team where the expectations are super high. I think she'll be factoring a lot of non-basketball concerns in her decision.

Wow, I'm from the West Coast and I can't imagine a Santa Clara player transferring to UConn in this day in age. But they were a decent program back when Rigby was there.

While I have no idea why Taya is transferring, I can only wish her the best. She was a competitor against us. I hope she finds what she is looking for.

If she is getting her degree in 3 years, good for her. That is no easy feat being a D1 scholarship athlete.

Not surprised to see her leave, and I think it could be for the best with Notre Dame. Just from a personality standpoint, Notre Dame didn't seemed like a great fit when you consider that she is outspoken and politically active on twitter/social media and Notre Dame is a small conservative school. I could be completely off base here, but she strikes me as a player who likes to be pushed. I am guessing she enjoys basketball as a passion/hobby rather than trying to make a lifestyle out of it like most top 50-100 kids do. In her limited time at ND, she improved less than most other top 25 players who've attended the school. I'd look for her to go to a program that's not as highly competitive/intense in their basketball culture. That said, she's still a solid player and should be an asset to whatever school she transfers to.

Updated 2013 Top 15 kids list:
1 Mercedes Russell-still at UT, redshirted
2 Kaela Davis-transfer
3 Diamond DeShields-transfer
4 Taya Reimer-transfer
5 Linnae Harper-transfer
6 Rebecca Greenwell-still at Duke, redshirted
7 Allisha Gray-transfer
8 Jannah Tucker-transfer
9 Tyler Scaife-still at Rutgers
10 Oderah Chidom-still at Duke
11 Erica McCall-still at Stanford
12 Kendall Cooper-still at Duke
13 Ronni Williams-still at FL
14 Jessica Washington-transfer
15 Lexie Brown-transfer

Others (I'm sure I'm missing several):
19 Ieshia Small-transfer
23 Stephanie Mavunga-transfer
31 Imani Wright-transfer
32 Kianna Holland-transfer
35 Shayla Cooper-transfer

Pretty crazy that 6 top 10 kids will have transferred. After this year, I wouldn't be stunned to see UT players and Duke players shuffle around some more.

She's made herself a pretty unattractive transfer candidate, but maybe she has that already figured out. Can't see a top 10 picking her up - including McGuff...

Why wouldn't the unscrupulous OSU coach do just that? Surely his 6-year stint as an assistant under McGraw wouldn't cause him any hesitation of conscience in going after Reimer if he wanted her. Sketchy McGuff is likely out of assistant coaching jobs with which to reward transfers' parents, but I'm sure he could find some paying position in the concessions or ticket-taking departments.

Whatever the reasons, however legitimate, Reimer left her teammates high and dry- twice. Geno speaks all the time about how important it is for every one of his players to earn the trust of her teammates and of the coaching staff. Maybe you would take the risk of relying on her- I would not.

NO WAY Geno would ever welcome Reimer's transfer, no matter how desperate we might be next year for a big.

(Besides, the more I see of Kyla Irwin the more I'm convinced she is going to surprise the 'experts' and become a dynamite power forward next year. Don't need a one-year Reimer rental.)

And ALL the people said................AMEN!!!!

C'mon; McGuff or McCorrie or Holly would grab her before she hit the ground. Waltz prolly would too. Why would they not?

Bball - thanks for the list. I trust you are referring to Tennessee when you write UT. If so, I have a question for you:

In your opinion, would the transfers be reflecting primarily an increasing trend in WCBB, or would it be specific to the current team?

If the latter, what the most significant factor: the disappointing season, the coaching staff's performance, or bad team chemistry; or a combination of these factors? Being you are a Lady Vol fan, I trust you are following the team much more closely that I am.

I wonder if the ND release had an error. It said she was a junior entering this season. Unless she was taking a lot of extra credits throughout her career, would she have enough to graduate this spring?

For her sake, I would hope that if she transfers into a graduate program, she gives as much weight (if not more) to the academic side of the equation as she does the basketball side.

She is a junior, but is on course to graduate from Notre Dame by the end of the summer term. From what I understand, she has been taking a steady stream of courses during the summer sessions.

Because she's RIDICULOUSLY OVERRATED. Definitely not a big-game player, more of a space-eating, large bodied plodder and little else.

No inside info, but I think Russell might realize how underutilized she is and how she isn't blossoming into a star even though all of the tools are there. Team chemistry doesn't seem to be strong, Tennessee's guards take the vast bulk of the shots despite having two former top 5 kids in the post, etc. Russell would only have 1 more year before she is eligible to go pro so she might just stick it out and then jump, but she's not close to the player she could be with better coaching.

Deshields just isn't fitting in at UT, she is visibly frustrated when she plays, high turnovers, poor shot selection, poor numbers overall and the team is significantly under performing. I don't get the vibe that she is loving her playing experience thus far, and for a player with her skills and athletic ability she should be doing a lot better.

Same issues at Duke regarding Greenwell/Chidom. Really poor team results and neither player is developing into a top ten kid. Duke is a top rate university so I wouldn't be surprised to see them stick around to get the degree That will ultimately help them more than basketball ever will, but when teams with tons of talent are borderline NCAA teams, I think it's safe to assume there might be some chemistry issues in the locker room.

Thanks for your thoughtful post. A follow-up on Greenwell: Irrespective of her development, she is the MVP at Duke. Duke would be nothing without her. They would have been much less. If she wants to graduate and do the graduate transfer thing, I'd take her in a minute (UConn or anywhere).

Kendall Cooper no longer on the Duke team as of around 20 December.

That's seems like kind of a weird situation, no?
The quote from JPM regarding Cooper's absence from the team."While this is an unfortunate experience, I am confident Kendall will learn from this and be a better person because of it," McCallie said. "Kendall will remain a part of the Duke women’s basketball family and will receive the full support of everyone in our program."

So, she left the team in December; but, still enrolled at ND for the Spring semester. Does that mean ND is obligated to continue honoring her scholarship? She will attend summer classes at ND in order to graduate. Again, is ND obligate to pay her way even though she stopped performing her athletic end of the deal?

She's originally from Kansas, so I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up there or another Big 12 school.

She is a big Kansas men's BB fan and she is friends with Gabbi Ortiz of Oklahoma. I could see her landing at either of those.

I don't know if they are obligated, but they are doing it.

Also (not responding to your post but this is a good point on the subject in general)

Wouldn't logic dictate that whatever she chooses as a field for Masters study would have a greater impact on her decision than the basketball program? After all, she did leave a program that competes for the NC every year, and she was a starter. She also doesn't seem likely to have the skill set to succeed in professional basketball. The fact that she chose to accelerate her academic program through summer study instead of using those credits to lighten course loads during basketball season speaks volumes about where her set of priorities lies. Basketball will presumably just be a tool to get a masters and increase her academic resume, which is already of high quality with an eventual degree from one of the top academic universities. Yes, it is indeed possible that basketball is not her number one priority, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that decision. In fact, some would find it quite refreshing.
