Tarris to the Lakers with the 23rd pick????

Ha. For real. And I promise I'm not trolling. I had the same feeling watching Tarris last year that i did watching kemba in his sophomore year. You saw things that made you think "with a little more control and polish, this person is gonna explode" i haven't had that feeling about a Uconn player since #15
Maybe he get to be friends/mentored by Emeka. Truly exceptional in everything beginning and ending with total commitment. Having alumni like Uconn stars has to build a special kind of confidence in the Uconn family. Dan Hurley refers to them and former coaches as "the immortals" Just love it when they come to town in the summer or other times to hang out with the kids.

Tarris can be be Sanogo like. Saw flashes in the footwork and baseline moves last year. And who is taking a rebound from his hands? No one. He really will only be limited by fouls and that is often ref dependent which he has no control over.

Not sure about him being as dominant as Mek but he is going to have a monster season if he can avoid foul trouble. We now have guards who understand and have the size to make good entry passes when he posts up. And if Taris gets the ball 3-7 ft from the basket in good position he is pretty much unstoppable with his size, foot speed and foot work.

Another thing with Taris that you have to consider is his motor. Will our staff be able to get him to stop taking minutes off when he is on the floor. Clearly he was better last year at avoiding that compared to his time with MI.

Even with all that climbing that mountain to stand next to Emeka will be very difficult. I mean against a very good Duke team in the final four and getting into early foul trouble, I will speak for me and my friends as we watched that game, we all thought that we had a chance in the second half if they (the refs) let Emeka play in the second half.

Then after we won that game he just man handles the center from GT in the championship game.

I expect Reed to have a very big year but better than Emeka not sure that will happen.

Tarris upside is clocked by that 24/18 performance against Providence but really, Providence barely even has a center and is long gone from the days of bruising Big East teams. I would take that game with a healthy amount of salt.

Then again, people overrate his fouling out - one hand can count when he did and pretty sure one time was Memphis OT and he was definitely not the only one fouling out on our team.

So I will temper the pick, generous at 23 with "let's see" but I am optimistic with all the shooters we have, and another Summer to work, he will be better than last year.

If he is better than Emeka than he will be the No. 1 pick in the draft
This craziness has to stop
Please turn up the clocks and start the season because some folks cant help but post anything.

Let’s look at it like this - just based upon an improvement in minutes to around 26 -27 per game, if there’s no improvement nor regression, he should be around 13 points, 10 boards, and 2 blocks per game. A reasonable, degrees of improvement can get him to 14-15 points, 10.5-11 boards, and 2,3 to 2.5 blocks per game. This is doable, and that’s one hell of a season.

Thing is Centers usually get 50-60% FGpct since they shoot from inches mostly. If he can average a double-double and be reasonably skilled on steals, assists, blocks he's going lottery.

But per @gtcam yeah, let's focus on Summer NBA results for our boys, any 2026 recruits than say yes, and be head's down on the actual season until it starts...then anything goes!

Me too and I think he will be.
Also we were calling Sanogo a black hole and a liability 2 months before he won tourney mvp.
Sanogo might have been called a black hole by some in that championship year, but never was he called a liability. He was acknowledged as a huge, huge dominant force from day one of that year.

Read an article recently about peoples memories.

The scientific study said that two people’s memory of the same event will always be different, even a few hours later. It’s because all memories are egocentric, so people remember the “facts” only as they relate to their selves personally, depending on what is most central and important to them.

Explains a lot of the discourse here on the boneyard. And with spouses.

This makes total sense. And I think it was AJax that people called a liability. And demanded benching

Not sure he has the mental makeup - Adama was so composed, almost stoic in how he used his body. Was rarely out of control. Mastered his technique.

Tarris is brute force with dancing bear feet, and nice touch. Such a different type of player. Panics at times, can feel rushed. I’d say a better athlete than Adama.

Move over Emeka
Move over Hilton
Move over Thabeet
Move over Oriakhi (lmao)
Move over Sanogo
Move over Clingan

We’ve got the 23rd ranked draft prospect in a July SI article breathing down y’all’s neck!
I remember in the 90's we were considered a "donut hole" team. Nothing in the center.

How far we've come.

Also -- Jake and Travis were not too shabby.

I’ll give OP some credit, for as ridiculously peak off season as this post is it still makes more sense than the goofballs last year arguing over which NBA all star Stewart and Ross most resembled and where in the draft both of them would go. At least Tarris has produced something at this point

And Rod Sellers held Shaq to his average in an ncaa tournament win! (I think his avg was 27.7, and he had 26 against us).

I won't even post the SI article because it's so silly. A year out from the draft and they have a landing spot for the UConn "Star" but i will say this:

I think that Tarris will have the best season any big man has had in the history of this program

I don't think we're prepared for how good this kid is gonna be for us next year.

PPG/RPG/Blocks

His numbers should be laughable.

In fairness, Danny did allude to Tarris’s occasional lack of awareness at times in the All Access piece last year.

If you can’t pick up that Tarris is a bit of a space cadet out there, then your blinders are thick. For him to even be considered a first round pick, since he has a total non NBA profile as of now, he’d have to refine his game upstairs and show he can hit a jump shot consistently. It’s rare if ever a 4th year guy all of a sudden becomes a first round pick. I guess Danny Wolf did it last year, but compare his style for a big to Tarris.

He is a specimen.

My buddy had a discussion with a guy at work after that game.

"Shaq kicked UConn's ass!"
"But UConn won, easily"
"Shaq had seven dunks!"
"But UConn won"
"Seven dunks with authority!"

I was in high school at the time and remember when the bracket came out. Kid who sat at the table behind me kept saying “Bye, bye UConn” in a baby voice with a stupid smirk on his face bc he knew I was a diehard. Still confuses me to this day how some people from CT simply don’t like the Huskies but that’s for another day. Anyway the day after the game, I was the one with the stupid smirk on my face walking into class…
