Tarris Reed????

And if you think “it’s natty or bust” every single year, I truly feel sorry for you

Of course that doesn't mean I can't celebrate a great season like last year, but in all honesty, my expectation is that we are competing for a national championship every year. It doesn't mean that we will always get there, but that's still the expectation. That's the legacy that Calhoun and Hurley have built.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up about anyone in this senior class returning, even if the rule is approved. From what I’ve heard, the expectation is that it would not apply retroactively.

My daughter plays field hockey at Duke (I know), and this has been discussed at that level as well—it was even brought up at the NCAA conference in January. At that time, the NCAA declined to extend a fifth year to Division II and III until the Division I situation is resolved which had been voted down I believing November or December of 25.

Based on what I’ve been told by her and her coaching staff, it’s trending toward approval—but Of more importantly, it’s expected to take effect starting the following season after approval
That would mean current seniors would not be eligible. My daughter is a Junior and if it’s approved before next season she would be eligible but it doesn’t get approved until during next season she most likely will not get the 5th year.
Thank you for the clarification

If we are going to compete for a national championship next year we need more size and I was wondering if they’re holding money back for Tarris. So I’m guessing the money needed to get Braylon and Silas back filled the budget.

Here read this. Have fun. But stop acting like you're the first to think of it and that everyone hasn't already discussed why it won't happen...

I didn’t see the video, from what I saw I didn’t see other discussion. The video you showed asks the same exact question, let me know where the discussion is I would love to see it.

I simply asked the question. Without reed I don’t think it’s possible to beat another very large michigan team (since we don’t hang banners for final fours)

It’s kinda funny what the Hurley monster machine has built. We had fans (myself included) freaking out over barely beating Georgetown twice in the regular season. I’m not sure how our fanbase would handle a 12-8 Big East season.

.-.
I disagree with every thought you’ve expressed but with respect to this “higher floor” thing last years team got tough at the right time but we spent most of the Big East season panicking about how bad the team was and how their floor was so low they could lose to any team in the country. I get that people are just chicken littles but the revisionist history made me laugh.

Also, if all these guys need a year of experience what are Demery and Mullins going to look like next year? Better or worse than this year? You think worse?
Nail on head BigErn
Demary and Mullins regress, new guys are confused by Hurley system, Hurley gets T’d up every game
We struggle for a .500 year
Did I miss anything?

Can’t wait, go Huskies!

I'm old enough to remember when the dream was to get out of the 8/9 game in the big east tournament. Expecting more is a good thing.

I don’t think any team is holding back money. The coaches and schools know that the chances of this year’s seniors gaining the extra eligibility is not going to happen.

Mara had 8/4 in NC game against us. Not sure what this fascination with him is. He's much more effective against teams like AZ who constantly drive to the rim. We rarely do that.

He was extremely effective against us.

Did you notice Tarris shooting 4-12 at any point in the game?

In this iteration of the BE - not well, and they would be right. The league needs to get deeper.

Mara blocked a few of Tarris' shots early on, so Tarris took more jump hooks than I remember him taking in other games, and taking them farther away from the basket, thus probably contributing to his lower shooting percentage in that game.

More importantly, his presence forced Tarris to pass out of scoring situations more than once. You can't value a shot blocker like that on just blocks alone - you have to count all the shots that weren't taken because he's there.

That's an entire thread discussing the topic. And you keep saying you don't think we have a chance of we don't get taller or don't get to Reed. Reed doesn't get us taller. And you act like our professional course coaching staff hasn't done an assessment of the college landscape, and the bigs that were available. They brought in their guys. And they told us what their recruiting priorities are.

You're allowed to have an opinion, but continuing to repeat it when others give you relevant evidence that what your proposing isn't plausible, is annoying and stupid.

Even if seniors are granted 5 years. Reed is prepping to go pro.

Not having Demery or Ball for most of the game and horrible three point shooting was a much bigger factor in the loss imo. We shot the exact same % from two against Illinois . We just made our threes that game.

We should give Michigan some credit - there was a reason most of the CBB world called them the best team in the sport last year. Their best player was playing on one leg and they missed their first 13 threes. We could have won that game, but let's not claim their 7'3" lottery pick wasn't a factor.

Mara definitely impacted UConn’s shooting.

You realized their star player was playing on one leg - Yaxel. Also Michigan missed their first 11 three point shots.

If you don’t like the Reed idea, please explain how we compete with Michigan’s interior next year.

If it’s natty or bust this is a fair question.
May depend on if that a/h ref gets the game again.

Mara made it really difficult for Tarris. Amazing anybody watched that game and their main takeaway regarding Mara was "hE scORed 8 PoiNTs"
Best and most impactful player on the floor.

Donovan Clingan did that at Uconn, and still does that in the Pro's.

What freshman recruit is playing the 4-5 of our starting lineup? The rest of it I agree with. Too much unproven potential compared to this past year and so much would have to go right. I want them to be great but right now I like to be reaslist and not sure we will be challenging for a national champion in 26-27. We will be good but a step down based on who we have presently on the roster. Losing Karaban, Reed, Smtih an Stewart is a lot of experience and continuity to lose on the team. Mullins igoing to have to explode for us to be anywhere close to good which is possible but is an unknown.
Rounding out 4/5 of our starting lineup meant 4 5ths of our starting lineup. Demary is the only real proven commodity. The other 4 are unproven and/or we need all to make a pretty big leap for us to contend.

The point was last year's team on paper was way more of a known/proven commodity going into the season than this year's team will be. We basically knew what we had going into last season at most positions and from our bench. Even if we had no improvement from the previous year, we'd still have been a top 10 team. Next year, we are hoping for and need massive leaps from 3 of our starters and hoping our freshman is starter quality to even think about contending. That's a huge difference. There is much less certainty going in with this year's roster. We could be very good, but many things will need to go right at many positions. Not having Solo on this roster is a big loss to our proven scoring capabilities

Competing for it is great. Thinking your season is a bust because you didn’t get it is something else.

But with the current rules, no one is really going to compete for a championship every year. Because of the amount of roster turnover, some years a coach and a school is just going to get putting the puzzle together wrong.
