Latest Tankathon (usually the best mocks) has him going to the Celtics – which I'd kill for – and Alex to the Spurs:

Personally I think it'd make more sense to reverse those two. Alex in Boston potentially turns Hauser into a trade chip by mid 2027-28, while the Spurs could use a young, beefy back-up who can spend a couple of years behind Kornet in the depth chart.

I also like Zuby (who's one of the few St. John's players of my lifetime I can stand) going to Brooklyn.

If he can have the same success Sunday against Duke that he has had thus far in the tournament then with an emphatic YES he will be first round. Every facet of his game has come together here at end. What can’t Reed do? Be honest, were you as confident as he was when he hit those clutch free throws? He has been sensational..

Tarris is our interior. He'll have to play his A game without fouling for us to beat Duke. He's been lights out this tournament.

I don't think his tourney showing has a ton of impact on his draft status - everyone knows who he is at this point.

He was hurt for the first third to half of the seasons, at least.

Yeah, we are going to have to establish some presence on the interior. Tarris has 15-20 lbs on Ngongba and they likely haven't seen anyone as physical as him this year. He's going to have to have the game of his life.

He's come a long way since he first got here. Is Dan Hurley turning us into "center U"?
 
He continues to improve and become a more complete player as evidenced by going 4 for 4 from the line down the stretch last night. His stats for points and rebounds have to be among the best of all players in the tourney. He will be drafted.

This is a major point and good point you made. If you and others have watched the NCAAT games closely, when an opponent has mostly a clear path to the basket or step or two on UConn's defender and even a step on Tarris he does what he can to alter the shot, but he makes damn sure he doesn't foul or make contact where the officials can even consider calling a foul. This is very intelligent play by Tarris. Giving up 2 pts, 4 pts, or 6pts has much less impact than him picking up 1 foul.

In 2024, Cam Spener getting in Clingan's face and cussing him out for picking up 2 early fouls in the first half of a game in February was crucial. After Spencer did that Clingan never got into foul trouble again that season.

Yeah, worries me with Duke because they know how to draw them, Boozer looks for contact and they tend to get the friendly whistle, if you haven't noticed.
 
I notice that Tarris appeared to be following strict orders to avoid first-half fouls vs. MSU. He backed away several times.

I think Cam told him 2 points is nothing but loosing you for 15 min is a big deal.

That was excellent coaching by Cam. Wish we had him for 4 years
 
Not to pour cold water on this, but what does Reed promise an NBA team that Sanogo (who's barely gotten a cup of coffee in the League) does not?

Sanogo could even shoot a little.

Does the extra inch or 2 in height and maybe a little more athleticism make that much of a difference?

i don't think there is a massive difference on their NBA profiles TBH - why for anyone saying Tarris' tourney play is getting him into the first round is rather funny. The size and better rim protection helps. I can't think of many comps.

That would be awesome. I don't watch much NBA so I have no idea how traditional centers are valued nowadays, but one thing is clear: in the moments where the spotlight has been the brightest, all the gears are churning for Tarris Reed and he's having a lot of fun working his magic this March.

Reed's per-game averages over the last eleven games: 15.7 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.0 blocks, 60 FG%, 66 FT%.

Sanogo was measured 6'7.25 without shoes in the 2023 NBA draft combine so Reed's got at least three inches over Sanogo. Reed is a much better passer too.

I guess in summary, Sanogo is a "tweener" where Reed has true NBA center size.

Have they decided on expansion yet? I remember reading an article recently discussing who the Spurs would be able to keep since they can only keep 8 guys. That article said Kornet would likely be gone as they would protect their young guys and star players and one of the expansion teams would draft him in the expansion draft.

Could make drafting Reed even more likely.
