Tarris Reed

Look at all the plays on both ends, given the circumstances and stakes involved one of the best UConn performances of all time

Hurley was all over this. He's maintained over and over we're only going as far as Tarris Reed takes us. Well, he's taken us to the Final 4. Why stop there??

Love that the light bulb went off. He's had moments here and there but never with this level of consistency. He's eliminated the stupid reach fouls on the perimeter and he's been fantastic with his body control, sealing off his defender on offense and creating tough angles on defense. Bravo to Tarris for putting in all of the work and believing in himself. We believe, too!

it would be interesting to chart how many "potential" assists Tarris has missed out on the past 4 weeks or so with our guys firing up blanks from 3, the pass he made to SIlas on the short roll at the 15 second mark of this clip was ridiculous. The development of his passing and vision this season has been remarkable, DC is a pretty good passer for his position/size and Tarris has become even better

Looks to me like the game is slowing down for Tarris. Doesn't panic in double team situations anymore. Waits for guys to get open /cut to the hoop. Great passer for a Big. Leading by example when the team needs him to do so. Clearly living the dream and having fun doing it. Why he came to UConn.

Hurley also keeps saying after every terrible shooting game that Braylon, Solo, and AK are three of the best shooters in the country. Everything still hasn't clicked yet and we're in the final 4.

Agree. It's kinda crazy how poorly we've shot it from deep but it's roughly in line with the 2024 edition.

In the 2023 run, we were 56/141 for 40%. (41/98 thru the first four games for 42%)
In the 2024 run, we were 41/136 for 30%. (25/89 thru the first four games for 28%)
In this run, we're currently at 27/93 for 29%.

He's a different player the last month. No doubt .Not sure what happened but his post moves, rebounding, and passing are at a different level. Was he playing hurt most of the year?
Reed looks like a completely different player. Just his energy alone is so much different. Thank goodness.

Going back and watching the first Illinois game from November, it’s really shocking how much less explosive he is and how much slower he is in space. The impact of the ankle injury isn’t as obvious when you watch the slow recovery each week over a season but seeing where he is now vs. then is wild.

I would never have guessed our ‘24 shooting was that bad with how we dominated

Yup. And Mullins’ dad was on with Dauster and said Bray doesn’t have all his athleticism back yet from his injury

With both Reed and Michigan in the Final 4 two years removed of Juwan Howard, looking like it was definitively the coaching.
I loved the Fab 5, which includes Juwan Howard, but he was a horrible head coach.

Tarris is our interior. He'll have to play his A game without fouling for us to beat Duke. He's been lights out this tournament.

I don't think his tourney showing has a ton of impact on his draft status - everyone knows who he is at this point.
I think his tourney showing has made some impact on his draft status. He is playing way above and beyond what he has in the regular season.

I do agree though that his A game was needed to defeat Duke. It will also be needed to defeat Illinois.

As we have seen and Reed/Hurley have said- Tarris is playing with a sense of urgency-esp. during the Tournament. Win or go home. Looks to me like he finally has the self-belief that he's unstoppable. He's right.

Not to pour cold water on this, but what does Reed promise an NBA team that Sanogo (who's barely gotten a cup of coffee in the League) does not?

Sanogo could even shoot a little.

Does the extra inch or 2 in height and maybe a little more athleticism make that much of a difference?
A lot more size and quickness. Sanogo was very good, but a bit stiff. I'd say Reed is more athletic, as well.

The interesting thing is, I remember Sanogo being a decent passer but then really leveling up towards March in 2023.

It’s wild to think that’s a pattern of just going from solid to awesome. But I’ll take it. Reed has been far better in the tournament than he showed all year.

Again, partly due to not being healthy for much of the year. And as he ramped things up, took a backseat to other guys until he was needed and 100% healthy. Honestly, not all that different from Clingan after he missed 5 games in December and January 2024

Yes

I know, I know Illinois is a "cOmPLeTeLy diFfeRent" team now, but they didn't need his A game to beat Illinois in November

You’re on fire today - you say again like you’ve told me this before and I’m not listening. I know he was injured, he still wasn’t flashing the passing skills he is now.

We are going to the Final 4... and although Mullins obviously will rightfully go down in Huskies' lore for hitting an amazing shot, and Karaban with the smart basketball play to pass it to him, and Demary with the great defensive play........

This is so much about Mr. Tarris Reed. He has been an absolute MONSTER for us in this tournament, and he is by far the biggest reason we are going to Indy next weekend.

And I love that so much, because I remember 2 years ago when Dan invited Tarris specifically to come to the Championship Parade in Hartford to celebrate the 2023-2024 championship because he believed that Tarris was his man.

And you know what? he was absolutely, 100% correct. I could not be prouder of young Mr. Reed and watching him come into his own and realizing how good he could be, right before our eyes.

Deserved MOP of the East Region.

Thank you Tarris! YOU HAVE BEEN AMAZING!!!!! With a CAP-IT-AL "A"!
Add one thing to that —- remember that Michigan was just as happy to see him leave. So whatever combination of talent evaluation and player development Hurley and his staff have put together, the results just speak for themselves.

I've just posted that here a half dozen times over the last few weeks. It wasn't meant only for you

Latest Tankathon (usually the best mocks) has him going to the Celtics – which I'd kill for – and Alex to the Spurs:

Personally I think it'd make more sense to reverse those two. Alex in Boston potentially turns Hauser into a trade chip by mid 2027-28, while the Spurs could use a young, beefy back-up who can spend a couple of years behind Kornet in the depth chart.

I also like Zuby (who's one of the few St. John's players of my lifetime I can stand) going to Brooklyn.

Tankathon is a ton of fun, btw:

If the Spurs take Karaban, I’m buying Spurs swag and signing onto a new favorite team.

IIRC.Spurs have 3 second round picks-Probably where Alex will fall. Have read where they see him as a potential Harrison Barnes replacement. In some mock drafts have also seen GWS projections for Mullins mid-first round. Imagine the Duke logo three doesn't hurt him there. Imagine being mentored by Steph?

I always adopt a favorite nba team based on my fav players, so it was Boston in the past and Charlotte as well…I adopted the Spurs when they took Castle and I’m a TINY bit annoyed that they’re this good already for that reason, it’s looking like I’m a bandwagon jumper but they were awful when I took them on, lol
