Everytime Reed was in the game, Crieghton dominated. Reed was not necessarily the reason per se but the disparity of quality minutes between the centers was glaring.

He was disinterested this game
Did he throw another pass away at the top to a guy who was moving?

Either it’s going to take a full year to rewire this kid to build some discipline or he’s just aloof. 2 TOs, 3 fouls, 0-3 from field, net -15 in 15 minutes. Right now he’s like a box of chocolates, you don’t know what you’re gonna get.

Tarris Reed struggled mightily on defense.
Yes, he had blocks early. Then Nova went 5 out and it absolutely destroyed him.
Samson isn't great in a 5-out either.

Stew looked like an all-american defenseman last night against Dixon...without him we lose by 25.

Liam is such a safety blanket on defense as well.
When Eric Rebus arrives next year on campus we'll be much better in the frontcourt. Reed, Rebus, and Singsre at center. Setwart at PF. McNeeley at SF.

McNeeley will be long gone.
Roster next year is:

Reibe/Reed/Seng
Stew/Isiah
Ross/Mullins/Furphy
Solo/Adams
Ahmad/Mahaney

I can’t see Mahaney sticking. That roster scares the cr@p out me as young, slight and zero leadership.

Revisiting this...

Reed's scoring output for his past 6 games.

7,4,10, 6, 2, 0

He's never taken more than 5 shots in any of these games. Makes this makes sense...
Reed Jr never looked comfortable in this game against Creighton unfortunately on either end of the court. If you look at my post in the "Creighton Scouting report" thread you will see where I thought he could make an impact

Having said that, if you look at his game logs, you will see has not taken more than 5 shots in a game in the last 6 games. The last time he took more than that was against Xavier by going 7-11. I do think he is being underutilized in the post area on offense. He would be a solid go to guy when the offense breaks down, not as good as Sanogo, but good enough.

When Sanogo was our #1 center, Creighton was able to exploit the high hedge as they set Kalkbrenner's pick further out than normal and exploited the shorter center's length when trying to defend K a's Kalkbrenner's roll. They did the same with Reed. Ine if the positives of Samson Johnson was that he was able to defend a high hedge and get back to make the passes to Kalkbrenner difficult (they threw a couple away).

Reed needs to learn how to use his assets (strength, moves, touch) when playing a center like Kalkbrenner. He seemed to wilt when challenged.

Agreed FFC fan. Tarris not a tough guy, and the high hedge is somewhat useful but not for everybody. I made myself believe in the high hedge, but reality is I don't. I watch both Sam and Tarris scrambling to get back after hedging, and it looks like a chinese fire drill. I don't see how they can get set and be effective down low when they are not even sure where they have to go at first after they hedge.

The only problem with the high hedge is the corner defenders needing to leave good shooters to tag the roller. It’s been explained a million times on this board why we do it, and we’ve seen it be very effective in what it tries to accomplish.

It works when we make the right rotations, or the corner defender tags and recovers correctly, or the shooter in the corner isn’t a threat. Kalk and ashworth showed their experience last game by making the right pass to stress our defense, most guys don’t have the ability or experience to consistently make the right read like that.

Tarris should probably play drop though, Samson is good enough at hedging that having two different looks on defense, like last year, would probably be a weapon for us.

I don’t understand why we hedged at all, let Kalkbrenner beat us with the 3. Send the center to the paint to defend the pick and roll where he routinely can get a high percentage shot.

Creighton eats the hedge for lunch every year. Feels like Creighton is Hurley's Kryptonite.

At least when we don't have a generationally gifted team.

We limited Ashworth and Kalkbrenner to some of their lowest shot totals of the season and we made the other guys beat us. Neal beat us and we didn't make the crucial 3s with the game on the line at home (missed 6 of the last 7).

If you make the post game a part of your game it pays dividends.

With this year's rosters, sometimes I'd rather have Reed on the block and Karaban shooting 3's, than Reed just setting screens at top of key and AK driving. Reed does disappear when doesnt get ball, but only time he really disappointed on low block was vs Kalkenbrenner.

It was clear this thread would age well

Or at least a championship team (2023 they defeated them in Gampel).

Keeping Reed Jr engaged is important and that is accomplished by getting him the ball in post where he can be successful. When all he is doing is setting screens it really isn't maximizing his potential and utilizing his full skill set.

When he stole the ball and took it down for a dunk I thought it was Stewart at first. He’s an unbelievable athlete and he’s got to become a focus of our offense soon.

When you're driving into the hoop like that, you need to go glass. Much more margin for error.
