As a player-esp. as a returning NC player-you appreciate Dan's loyalty to you. As a bench or rotation guy trying to get PT-It can sometimes be frustrating/confusing esp. if you're outplaying the guy in front of you. Game script/matchups/foul trouble/injuries can change these dynamics. All you can do is show up when your number is called. Like Reed did vs Nova.

I’m in the camp of leave him on the bench and let him come in after a few minutes. I know he has had two great games in a row but let’s pump the breaks a bit. We have to look at who we are playing he dominated against smaller lineup in gtown and a less physical lineup today.

He has not been in foul trouble which has allowed him to play more minutes and be more aggressive on the offensive end. It’s about the matchup against more athletic centers he might struggle a bit

Another point is we know how superstitious Hurley is so I wouldn’t couldn’t on him starting just based on that alone. If it isn’t broke don’t fix it. Bringing him off the bench has been working.

Samson will start on Senior Day. That just leaves Marquette. Just start Samson and get Reed in quickly.

Then starts the post season. Shaking up the lineup to mark the start of the “second season” is cleaner and may sit better with Samson. Still need him.

Tarris was a beast tonight - he played hurt for a stretch and still came through. He needs to be starting, it’s too obvious, as he’s physically tough, a great rebounder and can make things happen offensively around the basket.
All the things Samson lacks……so expect to see Samson Johnson starting again next game!!

It's not about matchups, he's a way better player than Samson. If Hurley is hellbent on never taking Samson out of the starting lineup, that's fine but the minutes split has to be 27-28 minutes to 12-13 if he's not going to play them together a few minutes and when Tarris is dominating only take Tarris out for a quick breather.

PC has Oswin who is a 6'10 shot blocker and Christ Essendoko who is 7'0 290 lbs. No reason to take away from what Tarris did out there today.

Alex came around today and you know how we encourage him to keep shooting? Well Tarris has to keep playing. Even if he has an off performance he is getting comfortable out there and HAS to be on the floor. If he scored nothing today he had 18 rebounds. But he had 24 on 10-13 shooting.

Reed would’ve averaged 15 and 10+ if we unleashed him from the beginning of the season and lived with the mistakes. He’s gonna be a monster next year, top 3 big in the country type stuff. It looks like Dan has figured out he needs to play most of the game. We should live and die with whatever he gives us until the end of this season.

I couldn’t agree more - he brings a mentality of toughesss to the team makeup to boot. Samson brings an image of a paper plane. You have to game plan for Tarris, Samson Johnson is an afterthought. Stop with the matchup bologna - Tarris should be a 1-3 option offensively and we should be designing a game plan around him.

He gets better the more he plays - don’t stunt that playing a really average at best 5. Go into March with your horses getting the real minutes.

And yeah starting matters / it’s a mindset and you want your warriors lining up at the tip. As someone said anyone that doesn’t see that likely never played sports.

What a game. 24 points, 18 rebounds, 6 blocks. He needs to start and play 30+ minutes moving forward.
He will if he plays good D like this game and stays out of foul trouble. Obviously he brings so much more than Samson does.

Is there a difference if he plays 30 minutes and doesn't start? Tyler Olander was a starter for a championship team.

We’ve been starting slow as f. Yeah it matters in March.
This is 100%. I have not wanted Hurley to change the line-up, thinking about the chemistry, Samson is a really important part of this team, but I can't remember the last really good start we have had, at Creighton I think. Usually though we are starting slow, coming from behind, most of the time it seems.

Starting the game stronger utilizing Reed, and having a more balanced attack and stronger defense and rebounding, those first 5 to 8 minutes could make a real difference in how the game might flow.
