Tarris Reed - 31 and 27. WOW

Was this the single most dominant performance ever in the NCAA tourney for UConn?

31 points 27 rebounds

Who else compares?

Kemba had his 36 point game in a win against Kawhi Leonard and SDSU in 2011.
But Tarris’ performance last night stands alone as the best ever.

Not sure about that. Quality of opponent has to factor in to the numbers. And I’m not sure how you compare a point guard to a center for dominance, as the ways in which they dominate are totally different.

None of that subtracts from what was an utterly historically dominant performance last night.

Toby Kimball, hands down the toughest player in UConn history, had 29:rebounds in a first round loss to St Joe’s also in Philly. One headline story thevnext day in Philly was all about Kimball despite the loss. That team also had Bialosuknia. Very good team with an awful draw vs St Joes in a virtual home game for them and their AA point guard Matt Goukas who in those days was a freakish 6’6” point guard.

Need Tarris and AK to lead this team as seniors in this tourney. It’s their team,
What happened in 48 hours?

Haven’t leaders been saying sometimes the Mojo finds itself? Do we have to work some variation of “bear” into all posts? I can bare-ly imagine that not working.

Actually the mojo finds us. I'm not sure that it has found us yet this year.

It was an alltime performance. I remember Elvin Hayes from his NBA days and know full well how incredible he was as a college player. Doing something that hadn't been done since Elvin in the late 1960's is incredible.

Can't find any of the "100 players" who could do what Alex does, huh?

How is that relevant? This roster is not 23 or 24. We just scrambled by a 15 seed, where our two volume guys went 1-14 from three. If we go down want to go down with the seniors driving the bus. We brought him back for a reason.

Obviously he was a beast with positioning and hustle, and would have had an impressive rebounding number regardless, but it was comical how many of those rebounds were just straight up drawn to him like a magnet.

But Alex isn't capable of driving championships, he was easily replaceable by 100 players when we won the last two, no? Your words, not mine. Hardest part about being a bullshter is forgetting the bullsht you've already said.

Oh, it's happening. Our first opponent was a fur man and our next opponent is the Bruins. Reed is showing himself to be the top bear.

Tarris was on. His limitation has been missing too many easy ones. If this gives him the confidence to be a star going forward, we might have something here as long as the shooters can snap out of it.
Really haven't seen him miss many easy ones. He has one of the best touches for a big man since Emeka. Great footwork around the basket.

And he out-rebounded the entire Furman team 27-21.

Last night showed how important Demary is to us.

Smith played admirably but also dribbled us into shot clock issues a few time and I really like Millender but watching him look over at Hurley for like 5 seconds each possession while being actively guarded was infuriating.

We've got our team to win it all just like in 23, Reed should be a bucket like Sanogo, Alex is Alex, Mullins needs to get hot like Hawkins did and Demery is alot like Newton. Now Solo is the guy I think can make a difference here as in title or not. I think Hurley is thinking Ross can be AJ like, not really but you know where I'm going and together him and Solo can make up what AJ brought. Then we need Stewart and Smith to bring that Calcaterra effect. I don't think it's a stretch, possible for sure.

As Danny said in the postgame interview, probably the most dominant performance in the NCAA tournament of all time.

Great job Tarris for saving our asses. Man among boys

If our 3 point shooters can get their shots to hit with any consistency now, and with Tarrs we will be in very good shape. But we do need Silas to play too.

Tarris praising the voice of God inside his head might be too much of a distraction. And then there is Danny. Tarris, alone, is the force of nature.

That was actually comical. Even the crowd was laughing at the third OReb.
You don’t get 27 boards without the ball bouncing your way a lot! Don’t get me wrong: that was one of the best single-game of performances in the history of this program. And we would have lost without it.

Basically, we needed the 2nd coming of Toby Kimball to win the game. I like the historical aspect.

Agree that positional comparisons are challenging since a PG does things a C doesn’t, and vice versa. Also, many impactful game attributes and traits are done away from the ball that many people may not notice.

Tarris’ performance was exceptional against Furman. He excelled in every aspect of the game and was the reason for our win. Should his performance be judged differently because it was against Furman? IMO no. He still made shots, rebounded, acted on instinct, played smart defense, etc.

To me, that was the best individual tournament performance ever by a Husky, regardless of position or opponent.

You’re infuriated by a guy who hasn’t played a single meaningful minute in over 2 months trying to make sure in a huge moment that he’s doing what the coach wants? If so, you have an anger issue.

It should be viewed in the context of what it was. We were down our do everything point guard and another important player (AK) and the team struggled tremendously. It was basically all Tarris with one other player helping him carry the load. It took an otherworldly performance from him to keep it from being one of our most embarrassing losses ever, that makes it an all-timer for me.

I meant AK was the only other player helping Tarris last night.
