I'm guessing that Carrington must be injured or otherwise unavailable. I doubt she was benched by coach's decision. Tara appears to have pretty much emptied her bench in this game.

I'm somewhat dreading Stanford's upcoming game vs. Tennessee. Yet another overrated opponent for the orange crazies to get all excited about beating.

Yes, I'm assuming the same about Carrington. That would be 2 of their 3 leading scorers injured at this point.

Also agree about Tennessee vs. Stanford. Having already lost by 20+ to Ohio St., UConn and Baylor this year, Tennessee beating them wouldn't really mean that much...except to Vol fans.

Attended Stanford-UNLV game and yes Carrington was out so apparently both she and McPhee injured. Good news: Maya Dodson coming out PARTY. 11 points (noone had more than 23 minutes) and very athletic moves. Sheer joy to watch. Prediction by year-end she and Williams both start. Possibly by next game.

A local sports writer once dubbed it "The Stanford Invitational". Well.....that ship has sailed. She's been dethroned. There's a new sheriff in town. Last year, Stanford finished second to Oregon State in the Pac-12. This year, I look for UCLA and Oregon to jump them in conference standings. Stanford may not make the conference finals this year. Happy to see the Pac-12 reach greater parity at the expense of Tara's team. She, and her squad, at times, have seriously slowed UCONN'S momentum. Not this year.
 
As I was reading this thread, there were some very good observations, I laud Tara for this “baptism by fire” though I doubt she thought they would be thumped by as much as they had. With such a young team she took the anti-Mulkey/Freese approach and refused to schedule the School bake sale (ie cupcakes). Hopefully they find their sea legs and perform well in the PAC12 by launching their new invigorated lineup by beating Tennessee! We know the committee sees through the facade of lame schedules (even if the voting public doesn’t-i.e. AP and USA Coaches poll). If she wins 20 games, she will get in and deservedly so. ;)

Kaylee Johnson is a bust. I don't think she is going to get a lot of playing time for Stanford going forward.

With regard to Carrington Tara said "She is out for a little bit, she should be back." The reporter suggested it was an elbow. Tara said "ya" and as for the time of return "we're hoping soon." With regard to Britt, "her ankle, we're hoping soon." "We're not rushing anything, we're hoping soon, obviously if they are both healthy that helps things a lot." (Kiana was emphatically nodding at that.) "As soon as they're healthy we'll be ready for them. I don't have a timeline." The longer she talked and the more the reporter badgered her the less convincing the act sounded. Unless of course she really doesn't have any idea when the two will be healthy.
 
I watched the Oregon St. Presser and Scott Rueck also pointed out the mistakes and area's that his team needs to improve in. A good coach holds his team accountable. If they don't the team does not improve. There are a variety of good coaching styles. I can not understand why some people think that players can not be challenged and held accountable for their efforts. It isn't personal. Turn in a bad paper and it comes back with red ink criticism all over it. But when players are not up to standards on court some fans want them to be coddled and lauded for their efforts.

The fact that Tara is so extremely vague about their timetable for return makes me none too optimistic. "We're hoping soon" is just another way of saying nothing.

Stanford is a much, much better team at home than they are on away games. I'm not so sure that this is a sure win for Tennessee, and the lady vols haven't beat Stanford at Maples since 2005.

The injuries to Stanford's top scorers might be to much for them to top a Tennessee team playing pretty good ball, but i expect a better game out of them at home then what they have shown against the other ranked games they've played, especially if that one guard they have can continue to light it up behind the arc..

To bad this game isnt being shown on espn, bc it is a very compelling matchup

Stanford has mounted a comeback to take the lead and is playing better, but more than anything they're just fortunate that WIU has gone cold, still scoreless in 2Q.

Stanford leads 28-21 with 3:00 left in 2Q.
 
Wow a 19-3 second qtr for Stanford has then up by 9 at the half. 33-24
Horrid shooting for WIU. Didnt make a basket until 3 secs left in 2nd qtr.
 
There's a weird discrepancy in the score shown on the live stream vs. the official stats: Basketball Live Stats

Live stream says halftime score is 33-24. But the live stats are showing 30-27.
 
Stanford leads 37-32 at the 3Q media timeout.

WIU is a decent mid-major but this is just not a good showing by Stanford.
 
The Leathernecks have started hitting some shots again and have made this a very interesting game. Stanford leads 47-45 at end of 3Q.

I must say I'm impressed with WIU as a team, and especially their point guard Emily Clemens. She has 17 points, 4 assists and 4 steals already in this game.

Stanford's horrendous free throw shooting is a major story here: 5 of 16 from the FT line!

Give some credit to Western Illinois, but Stanford looks dreadful.
 
Looks like Wilson and Williams started again for Stanford. Both in double figures but not shooting the ball very well, and only 2 assists combined. Gotta have more than that from a pair of supposed PG. Sniezek off the bench is scoreless but has 5 assists. Johnson still starting, only has 1 point but 16 rebounds. The make up of this team is kinda strange. They have some players that are fairly limited but are good at least one aspect of the game. Smith has 18 points and 13 boards. W/ McPhee and Carrington both out, Smith is their best player left by a fairly wide margin.
 
Who was saying they are a much better team at home? They haven't played many home games this year and no noteworthy opponents, so it's kinda hard to say how much of a home court advantage they really have.

Bad shooting all around--32% from the floor, 25% from 3, 31% from the line. It's hard to believe how bad Stanford has been so far this year. They need to get McPhee and Carrington back pronto.
 
WIU leathernecks win 71-64 Stanford 8 for 19 from charity stripe.
Stanford is now 6-5 with home games coming up against Tenn, UCLA, and USC before 2017 ends.
7-7 or 6-8?
 
I was thinking that the refs really swallowed their whistles for the last two minutes to let them play but more likely they just wanted it to be over, too.

Yikes..i guess i spoke to soon. Will stanford even make the ncaa tourny? Im seeing at least 14 losses..

That was me..generally stanford is a super tough home team to beat, well for tennessee at least. Looks like a rough season ahead for the ol cardinal.
